I don't get to spend much time in forums these days due to work, but this topic jumped out at me. I can relate to your project because I believe the 4G63 in a RWD car is the ultimate setup in terms of power and reliability. So much so that I built one for racing, and plan to build another one for the street!

We couldn't have done any of this without David Buschur and his team who provided us with tons of support on this project. In fact, David personally went way out of his way to help us get our race car together. Here are pics of our 4G63 Starion:

That said, I have considered this swap in either a miata or an rx7. I actually have a bellhousing that will allow you to run a 4G64 block mated to a RX7 turbo II 5 speed transmission. If I can answer any questions that you may have about the swap or want to swap ideas, shoot me an email and I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

Good luck,

Tom

THanks, yeah its an interesting project, and the more i learned about the 4G63 engine, the more I realized how well it holds up to big power, retains its drivability and reliability.. And its fairly light (After humping around a short block in my garage, its so much lighter than alot of the other engines I've worked with)

I'm curious how the weight of the 4G63+manifold+turbo compares to other motors. Anyone have a numbers?

I can tell you its quite a bit lighter than a V8.. The entire setup dressed is a bit lighter than most normally aspirated 4 cylinder engines.. And its roughly the same weight as the Turbo-II engine and accessories, brackets, etc in an RX-7.. I think that would be around 500# or something like that..

I have an 2 Opel Gt's and it would make a sick car with Evo power. Check your PM Jack. My 1600lb Opel with a built Evo motor would have serious 9 second potential and it would be truely unique.

I gave some thought to a slightly later Mirage.. The ealier one your thinking of has the engine oriented the same way as an eclipse GSX drivetrain.. It would (and has been done) be alot easier.

My thoughts have been leaning towards an AWD 4G63 Omni GLH.
