? Installing HKS 264 Cams

I just bought HKS 264 Cams all around for my Evo, I was wondering is it HARD for two people in a garage with the proper tools to install the HKS 264 Cams? I seen somewhere on the forum Vishnu install instructions but can't find them anymore, lol. One other question I have, After installing the Cams, is it okay to run them without a tune? Thanks in a advance.

I am installing some 264s in a couple days with a buddy in my garage. I don't suspect it will be too hard. Also, you can run them without a tune temporarily. Don't just not get a tune....

yep just go slow and you should be fine. Double check everything when you put it back on (bearing caps,CAS sensor position) and don't start the car until you are sure the timing marks are all set and good. Check it 3 times if you have too but it isn't hard at all with the right tools.

Shouldn't be a problem for the mechanically inclined with the right set of tools.

You can run 264's w/out a tune with no issues. But get it tuned and you'll really feel the difference.

Did my first one on an Evo in less than an hour. But it doesn't matter how long or fast you get it done. Just get it done right the first time. Like GTVEVO suggested....Double check everything you've done before you fire it up.

FWIW....2 sets of hands working simultaneously on this kind of job is unneccesary. Just have your friend hand you tools and keep an eye on things that you might have missed.

Good luck !

Thanks for the replies. I will look over the directions to install the cams and re-read them, then go from there. I think I am going to try it. It seems its pretty straight foward as long as you take step by step and note everything you do. When me and cousin do work on each other cars we are as careful as can be thats why usually we take so long to do stuff, lol. (By the way he drives a 03 M3 which is still pulls on me by about two to three car length from 30 to 140 but I am pretty with cam install and nice tune, I will be passing him ) Regarding the tune, I am getting the Xede when the new firmware come out for it and Vishnu comes to the eastcoast to do custom tunes. So I guess when the time is near, I will attempt to install them.

EVOTEXAS - if you don't mind, can you keep me posted on how your install went with cams.

Maybe you guys have some suggestions for me as regarding any upgrades I should do after: So far I have HKS Suction Intake, Full 3" Exhaust(no cat), HKS EVC V (I am removing it when I am going to getting the Xede as recommeded by Vishnu, B&M Precision Shifter with 2pc bushing from Lancershop. Also I have JDM MR BOV not installed because I don't like the way the car drives plus Vishnu told the stock is fine maybe before the tune I will put it. Also I am getting Perrin Oil Catch can, smaller battery, stoptech brake lines and coilovers.

Does anybody know where I can get directions on how to relocate the battery to the rear?

Thanks in advance.
