Noise goes away in a straight line because the differential is not turning inside itself anymore, hence, it isn't sensing a difference in travel between the wheels (as it does while turning).

You've probably ground all the teeth off of the spider gears and now there is nothing left to "grind" anymore.

It is louder on slow left turns
I dont think it the t case. For me it sounds more like the rear diff.

hmmm thats interesting. my ears have been known to decieve me when trying to pinpoint where a noise is coming from in a car. to me it sounds like its coming from the front but perhaps i'm wrong. i'm taking the car tomorrow to check for metal in the fluids so maybe that will provide some answers.

The front differential is in the transfer case. The transfer case is NOT inside the transmission. It sits behind the transmission and is sealed off, for all intensive purposes. Why do you think the transfer case and the transmission take different types of gear oils? If fluid from the transfer case can't make it to your transmission and touch your synchros, I seriously doubt pieces of your front differential could either.
If that pic you posted destroyed synchros, then it must have been a center differential, not a front differential. In fact, that looks like a stock 2 side gear center diff out of a DSM.
Center diffs were known to grenade like that on the DSM's. I've actually done it before.
