Unhappy I need a new clutch!!!

Alright guys heres the story... I jus bought my 05 EvO MR. I had barely put in 2400 miles on it and i need a clutch. I kinda had too much fun... Lesson learned. The most ****ty part of it all is that I cant find any aftermarket clutches for my car yet. The only difference from the Evo and the Evo MR's clutch is the disk. pressure plate and throwout bearing is still the same. I have heard of Evo trannys being a bit on the weak side, so is it worth it to put in an aftermarket clutch and risk later down the road that my tranny fails, or go with another stock clutch and drive a lil safer? At first, i decided to go with aftermarket, but after doing some research I find that most shops dont know about what will or wont fit the MR. I could really use some help! Havent been driving my evo for a week now... very sad and depressed.

How many miles did you have when you got the car and did you test drive it before you bought it?

That sucks man. I wouldnt waste the time putting a stocker back in there. Call the clutch manufacturers and see what they say.

I just responded to the other clutch thread... Team D just installed the RPS twin Carbon clutch in my MR after 400 miles. After market clutches that we all know and have used on our regular Evo's will work on the MR, as we have already done it. The car will be up and running by the end of the week, i will post on my impressions of the RPS... but man the stock MR clutch is pure garbage, way to go

Take it back to the dealer and make use of that warranty, that's what you pay for.

Is the MR in the states 6 speed or 5 speed? If its still 5 speed then the tranny is the same as the Evo 8.
Mitsu Japan is not releasing any 6 speed outside of its own domestic market due to the fact that they need more testing done before its good to go out.

If its 5 speed, then I guess the ACT or the RRE or any of the twin disc available will suit the MR. But get it warrantied.. stocker is good if everything else is still stock..

My question is ' Will these Act or RRE clutches fit the 6 speed tranny I have in my JDM?'
That unfortunately I do not know cause I'm still on a stock clutch. I only know that HKS has a different part number on the HKS GD twin plates for both the 5 speed and 6 speed. Was told that there is a part needed to fit on the 6 speed but the clutches are the same.. Its also more expensive for the one on the 6 speed..

The MR is 6 speed.

Wow, that must have been hard driving. I have 20K on mine and it still feels pretty good. Good luck

Yes, the stock clutch is fine if you don't launch it. I believe It will last as long as 40K miles or more if you drive it like a normal car. But if you launch it, especially repeatly after it's gotten hot it will not last more than 10 launches. (I will prove it to anyone with stock clutch that I can kill it in under 10 launches or I will pay for your next clutch install.

At least he's being a real man and admitted that he dogged it out and is paying for remedies.

I suggest you get something better than stock from ACT or Exedy if you have a bit more cash.
Stock Evo 8 RS/MR/GSR transaxle is well built. Just learn to drive it. If you are getting wheel hops let it out. Bouncing it will trash your Transfer Case.
Also remember that if you have to replace the clutch twice it would be able the same price for ONE Exedy Hyper Twin

Get a twin disk carbon.

I have the cusco (i believe it's carbon-metalic or something).

You can launch like a madman. Also, a carbon clutch doesn't stink like an organic one when launched.

FYI, I've HARD launched my car like 124133123 times, i.e. reved up to 6k and slipping the clutch, and the clutch has been in my car for 12k miles.

It's well worth the $1,400

LOL @ those who abuse their EVO tranny. Keep it up.. you will probably spend more $$ on tranny/clutch repair than enjoying it.

Let a lesson be learned: You can not launch an AWD car like your old RWD/FWD.
