Good work Dave, I did a before and after ceramic coat test on my 25g setup. I coated the manifold, turbine housing, and downpipe. I did it for the good looks but was major surprised at the power it picked up. 20whp on the g tech.

Those with AEM soon realize that the timing numbers are slightly different than what you would use on say a UTEC or Flash - I really dont know the reason but the AEM timing numbers are consisnatly low

I thought it was because it was relative to the base timing (timing at idle with a timing light)

That is possible but I think it has more to do with the electronics in the AEM. I think the pick up delay compensation is not totaly dialed in so the timing drifts as rpms increase - at least that is my pet theory. When tuning with the AEM, I have found that the actual number is not what counts but rather what the car needs. When tuning you listen to the motor and see how much timing you can add without knocking. I have found that on pump gas in most cases the knock is the limiting factor of how much timing you can run. When you run race gas or the alcohol injection you tune to the point of highest tq and then back it down a certain percentage for margin of error. if you advance the timing past the point of peak tq then you are not realizing any more additional power but you are closer to predetonation and serious problems.

Not a misprint, only 8 degrees at redline.

The port work is matched to the head and then to the turbine housing gasket on the manifold, the turbine housing is the treated the same way. The 02 housing is where we got carried away and I am guessing made a big difference.

I don't know what to attribute the power gains to, coating or porting. I will have to get a picture of this up as the coating is just beautiful. For anyone tired of the rusted manifold from the hood vent this is the way to go.

More testing today. We clipped a stock turbo, the amount of clip will stay confidential. I was expecting a decent gain in horsepower. I didn't get it. (Sucks being honest guys, keeps from being able to sell every single part you test

Here is some of what did happen. The boost ended up dropping just a little about 1 psi. So at this point the stock turbo will not hold over 17.6 psi in the car. The spool up was hurt as the power was behind the stock unclipped turbo all the way through the power band.

Something else very interesting that happened. I compared the before and after datalogs and found that the knock dropped considerably. Actually never got over 1 volt. This tells me the combustion chambers were able to empty better with the clipped wheel.

From there I was able to do some additional tuning and could actually run another 4-5 degrees of timing. Now that is really good news as anyone not running a standalone this would automatically allow the car to advance the timing and give you more power. In the end I was able to get the peak power back to 358 whp but up top from 6800-7500 I was able to actually flatten out the curve and make a little more than before. Nice.

The spool up had I been interested in taking the time to tune more probably could have been made the same also. I did not touch the AFR's or timing there at all, pure laziness I have to admit. I was in a hurry to test these HKS racing cams. They are going in the car right now.

Thanks,

280 cams are in the car right now. I have never heard a 4g63 that sounded like this at idle.

I think you might need to wait longer than 5 minutes before he can give you a long term analysis! LoL
