How was the idle with the 272s and were you using any cam gears? If so what were they set at? Thanks david

K...2 questions.....not in anyway shape or form to send this thread off topic

1) How comparable are your dyno numbers compared to lets say Pruvens..just curious

2)Since you just did the cams...Im thinking about cams but after reading alot about them Im worried about the longetivy of the car. Could you possibly check out this thread and maybe comment? (On either thread) I have alot of faith in Bushur so I figured you could
ease some of my concerns

use2vtec,

272/272 cams, stock gears. I HATE adjustable cam gears, for the few HP you might pick up it isn't worth the risk of them coming loose and loosing adjustment. I have seen too many sets do this and you loose a valvetrain from it.

nyredevo,

I said on page one I won't get into 2wd vs awd dyno's. The numbers seem to be exactly the same between my white RS and what Al is currently getting on Pruven's. Our red car was higher, about 20 whp higher from day one, so I think it was the car.

The thread about the problems with the cams I went and looked at. It is a bunch of BS. No problems with the HKS cams, at all.

HKS cams come degreed near perfect. They work fine with stock cam gears.

I installed a set of 272's with stock gears in Mitsuorder's Evo and the idle has a large "lope" to it (untuned). However, it is a very "smooth" lope. Meaning it never attempts to stall, and is as rhythmic as an Olympic athlete's heart beat. Still untuned (taking care of that on the 6th of Feb.) he installed his Buschur mass air pipe... the car would hardly run, sputtering, and stalling. He re-installed his OE mass air pipe (still with the Buschur filter) and it ran smooth again. I can't help but wonder how many people complaining of "bad idle" with the 272's are not experiencing something similar.

Which mas pipe is he using? Is it the one with two bends or just one? The single bend MAS pipe has NO idle issues, the two bend mas pipe will need a custom idle flash, we have one.

The reason I wouldn't think the deluxe kit would make any difference is the core and end tanks are exactly the same. The only difference is the inlets and the fact that the deluxe kit comes with that short lower i/c pipe. I wasn't expecting any power gains from that lower i/c pipe.

Just to clarify, you don't think there will usually be any gains from deluxe intercooler kit vs. the standard one? If not, it would seem the extra installation work and cost for the deluxe kit wouldn't be worth it. Are you planning on changing to the standard intercooler kit for the stage 3 package?

Thanks

I'm confused on the deluxe vs. standard FMIC dyno results as well. You said that you didn't believe the 6-8 whp difference that you saw on the dyno with the 2 FMICs, but at the same time you do believe the 3-4 whp difference that you saw with the Magnecors? If the results of the wires are reliable, then the FMIC difference would seem to be even more solid. Perhaps there's a qualitative aspect to the dyno results that I'm not understanding?

The deluxe kit comes with the new lower i/c pipe which replaces the uber restrictive stoker, that's where most of the hp gains from i/c kits come from unless you're dealing with heat soak conditions where the actual thermal efficiency of the stocker has been surpassed. In a nut shell is this about right David? Oh and I have the BR intake pipe with two bends, even my old custom flash never made the car drive right with it, so I'm going to give Mark a shot with tuning around it, if that doesn't work I'll have a black powder coated piece of "modern art" sitting on my table.
