Can you give us some details on what size wastegate it is (im guessing its a 35mm). Also what brand WG are you going to sell with your kit. Thanks

Screw the undertray, you guys know I hate that thing! The undertray would have to have a hold cut in it to route it out and through it.

My theory is the factory wastegate with it's dual valve design has too much surface area, this with the high amount of back pressure on the back of the valves I feel are pushing the wastegate valves off the seat, letting the boost drop. If that is the case this external gate should fix it.

The valve we will probably use is the Tial gate, the one I have on now is 38mm. Price on that complete piece is $725.

If you throw in the big blue and small blue springs in the wastegate you won't even need a boost controller. 20psi easy. Of course, if you want more then 20 psi then you would need one.

Ahhh, but you know some of us just are not going to let go of it... for no money.

Nice work on the wastegate David!

I'd trade my plastic undertray for a nice aluminum replacement with a built-in splitter

Dave, how much boost are you planning to run near redline? Looking at the compressor map for the TME, it looks like running anything much past 20psi at 7500rpms is starting to get out of the turbo's efficiency range...

I was actually thinking about a one piece undertray with a built in splitter last night. Funny you'd say that. Seems like the smart way to do it if you ask me. Wouldn't be a need for the front tubular supports you see on all the splitters then.

I'd just like to be able to maintain 20-22 psi at redline with the stock turbo. Right now it is only holding 17 psi. Add 3-5 psi of boost to that and you are looking at 30-50 whp gains at redline.

I had the car together and as we were finishing up I was reminded we needed to do a mock up for a tubular 02 housing for the GT30 and GT35R's. We had to pull it all back apart and build another new part to sell. I should be done by noon today and hopefully I can get some testing in today.

Time is growing very short. Only 3 weeks until the Mitsubishi/Subaru Showdown on April 15th. I want to have the car in whatever state of tune I decide on for the Car and Driver event by then so we can do some testing.

Dave...im a lil confused...ur only holding 17psi cause u clipped the turbo right? Or is that what the stock turbo drops off to normally?

Dave,

Is this just a problem with the TME turbo? That's what's on the car, isn't it? Because I believe your '03 car's stock turbo held boost over 20psi....I know mine does. So I'm wondering if all TME's don't hold boost for some reason. Anybody else have a TME and care to comment?

It is the cams and the poor wastegate/flapper door configuration that contributes to boost dropoff. On stock cams there is still dropoff, however it is less pronounced.
