Just curious if any of you guys cracking pistons are running ARP or aftermarket headstuds.

I would hate to have something like this happen to my baby Plus the closest shop I trust is 350 miles away.

How Much U Looking At If U Change Piston, rods, Bolts ,etc To Make It Stronger On Brand New Evo9 Engine?
I M Not Looking For 2.3 Stroker Kit. I Just Wanna Beef Up The Internal Parts.....so That Way I Could Run Methanol Kit (pushing 29psi =mabye Close To 380whp And Be Done With It)

Do U Have To Take The Engine Out In Order To Change Pistons And Rods?
I M Really Interested In This Routh , Beacuse I Blew The Engine Same Reason Above On My Previouse Evo8.

Thanks In Advance

The stock evo pistons are a known weak area, however, we have seen them last very well on your level of whp. So far, we have even pushed 500 whp on them and no problems.

I strongly advise everyone to maintain a max 20.5 - 21 psi on pump gas. If you try and push higher than that on pump gas you can get the fmic heat soaked and detonation can result. Especially, when doing pulls back to back in a racing situation, (fmic begins to heat soak and collant temps rise) if anything the boost should be set a tad lower, maybe 20 psi. When racing on pump gas, 22 psi and a bad load of gas can result in knocking which presents tremendous shock loads across the face of the piston. Such a knock event may expose a piston with a casting flaw, or even a perfect stock piston as they are quite weak. I have seen excelent reliability on the Dyno Flash tuned ecus and this is the very first instance I have seen of this kind of failure out of the 950 plus ecus I have out there.

If you need any assistance with getting replacement pistons - I can provide you with a free set (I have many) and I can get you all the other things you may need at cost . I would like to come by and take a look at your engine if you don't mind - please give me a call when you get a chance.

Not trying to start anything but why did you turn my boost up to 25lbs on pump gas, when you tuned my car on BR dyno? I asked you why you were doing that and you said, it wont hurt it bro. ????????????????????

That is called fruad. It is illegal and causes the rest of us Evo owners grief when we actually have a legit warranty issue. If you cant pay to play, dont!

If you bring us an EVO that is in good enough shape to upgrade rods/pistons this is what the build would look like:

Rods, $700
Pistons, $625
Gasket kit, $200
Timing belt, tensioner, $145
Rod bearings, $90
Labor, $1000
Oil, antifreeze etc., $200

This would get the shortblock up to the task of handling just about anything you can throw at it.

There is a huge difference between testing a car under a controlled operating evironment such as a dyno tuning session with wide band and knock monitior watching for any signs of problems and - on the other hand - racing out on the street in 4th gear with no monitoring

I do not recall the specifics of your tuning session - but appranently your piston did not crack in half ?

Very odd! I have never seen a piston broke in half like that.

IMHO... seems like a defective piston.

Hats off to Al for the offering and willingness to help!

TD05HR.... If I were you and with the money, I would take this opportunity to at least place a stronger than OEM pistons in your car. Just my 0.02!

Good luck on your repair!
