I know there are titanium pistons, but I doubt there's any standard product for the Evo. If you get them made especially for you they'll be VERY expensive. I remember Honda made a bike (Some NSR, I think) with titanium pistons but it never made it to big numbers partly because of the cost of the pistons and some durability problem I think...

It was the Honda NR 750 with oval pistons and 8 valves per cylinder.

I asked Mike W at RRE about this. Here is his reply:

"The HOK guy is correct in the newest post. The turbine wheels of the turbo (exhaust wheel) is a titanium/aluminum alloy (TiAl)

The pistons are 8.8:1 compression and have oil cooling pssages in them but are not interchangble with DSM vintge stuff since the motor is backwards (valve dish cut outs in the piston are opposite of what they need to be).

Mike W "

Not sure about this but I think the titanium turbo has more lag than the ceramic ones but less than standard metal ones. However, the titanium turbo is stronger than the ceramic ones and can run more power. It's a good compromise.

Wish they would fit forged pistons as standard but sadly not. JUN do them as mentioned byHOK.

JUN's pistons are definetely made by someone else, was it Omega? And they don't have titanium pistons.

Cosworth do the piston blanks but JUN make a few tweaks, particularly the skirt design and ring sealing at high temperatures for increased boost. JUN's forged pistons are aluminium I think.

I hope that the pistons aren't all aluminium as aluminium melts at 650 deg C and so probably wouldn't make good pistons!!!!

'The materials for the piston is the special aluminum for forging-use with manufacturing 400t press into the mold. Durability is just excellent.'
