Nope, don't need springs for the 272's.. lift isn't high enough to have problems or bind the springs.. If your building and porting a head, then upgrading to better springs is good preventative.. If you want to rev higher than 8000rpm then springs (among other things) are a necessary upgrade.

To give you a point of reference. I had everything but cams with my stock turbo setup and made 279whp. Went to a GT35R kit and only make 305whp on the same dyno. For reference stock evos dyno 200whp on this dyno (dyno dynamics). I'm going with hks 272's and ARP headstuds next. I will post gains after the upgrade. BTW this is on 91 octane and 20psi. I am guessing around 320-330whp on this dyno which is about 380whp on a dynojet or roughly 400bph. 400bph on 91 octane is fine by me So on my car a huge turbo and cams will probably net me around 50 extra hp on pump gas. Of course, running race fuel and raising boost to 25psi would probably net me another 40hp alone.

Running that GT35r at 20 psi is almost a waste of time. I tried doing so with mine and it really feels sluggish, try 22-23 psi and things become very interesting. My combo made 415whp on pump gas at 22 psi. C16 netted 523whp at 29-30 psi. Anything after 25 psi and this thing pulls like you would not beleive!!! All this with the stock ECU and HKS 272's.

We are running the Revolver Cams in our shop Evo MR with fantastic results on a GT3076 turbo. These cams need the right cam gear settings to operate to your needs, as they can change dramatically in both idle quality and power production. If you are only looking for top end power then you retard them, or keep them fairly straight up for great torque and good top end, or advance them and make huge torque and sacrifice some top end charge. I rate these cams over the HKS units, but you WILL have to play with cam gears to optimize what you are looking for.

i run the 272's on a gt35r --31.5psi---setup on my evo with utec, i like the rough idle, if i want it to idle lumpy, i put in ecu in the 1k slot--20 deg in the 500 ---15deg in the 0 slot in the 0 % column
if i want to idle smooth i punch in 25 deg in all three slots and it idles perfect----
btw it pulls like a sob all the 8000rpm i havent been farther than that yet
regards ick

I'm running RNR GT35r with 264/272 and it seem fine, idle is good. Is there any good and con versus 272/272 for the GT35r?
