Stock Boost Ok?

Well this is very weird. My stock boost was spiking to like 20 briefly then bleeding off to 16-17. Then it got super cold outside and is spiking to 20 or 21...then bleeding down to 15. Does this indicate some sort of problem? I will be getting an Xede soon...whenever it decides to show up, but are these stock readings normal? It still feels like it running really strong...its just is reading boost different. Hopefully the Xede will stop this boost taper crap. Thanks for any insight in advanced!

Yes... if you searched you would have found answers to your questions...

Boost taper is normal... If you've done your homework on the Xede, you would know that it does cure the boost taper.

Boost taper is to provide a fudge factor or safety margin to keep the turbo at the peak of it's efficiency...

Another explaination is that the stock diverter valve isn't capable of holding all that pressure and is leaking... But you shouldn't have that problem with your type-s...

I don't mean to sound like an A$$, but If you're serious about the Xede, you seriously should read into it and know what you're getting yourself into... Maybe you then you think twice about jumping into that mod... here's a cut and paste straight from vishnu's product list...

Engine Management

XEDE..........$895* (Now with Plug-and-Play harness!)

Installable in minutes with no wire cutting or splicing, the XEDE (pronounced "ex-eed") is the only user-programmable engine control system that works with the factory ECU- not instead of, or against it. Every one of its functions has the resolution and flexibility to complement all factory ECU engine control strategies. From the factory ECU's boost-limiting safety features, to its long-term learning algorithms, etc., the XEDE carries the tuning torch without inducing any compromise to performance or safety margin. Now available with real-time map switching, real-time map tracing and fully configurable general purpose outputs suitable for additional injectors, water injection, progressive nitrous control or electronic boost control. See our on-line Tuning Map Database for currently available XEDE tuning files.

true that, read upon piggyback EMS before you plug that in. It could mean the difference between boom and satisfactory grunt.

Mine boost spikes to 24 psi now the weather is cold.

there is taper due to the stock plastic bov. also the stock internal wastegate. Yeah weather affects the performance. On colder days, the car runs a lot quicker.

I noticed a 1 to 3 psi increase when the temps here dropped towards 0 degrees. Even on my low boost setting of 19.5 psi, I still spiked at 22.3 for a second due to the cold.

Weather affecting boost is normal, from what I have read in this forum, and what I have experienced.

yeah I have a greddy type - S valve. But is the tapering down to 16 or 15 too much? That seems to be low, but then again it could be the guage..or weather or something too. I dunno.

also...sometimes it tapers more than others, but there is nothing to indicate that there is some sort of boost leak or anything.
