any gains from downpipe & test pipe w/ stock catback?

I don't like the idea of not being able to hear my kids (or myself), so I thought I may want to run a downpipe and test pipe (or hollow cat) then leave the stock cat back in place.

would i be gaining any power? I will be running a boost controller and ecu reflash are my only other planned mods.

thanks

I'm sure it will give some power but not as much as with a whole new TB exhaust. Why don't you like hearing your kids?

Yes, with that you'll most definitely gain whp. That's my current setup and although I've never been to the real dyno, Dyno Log Lab said I'd have around 285whp or weather corrected 261. That was before I played with the AFR though but I know was running a bit too lean so I can't say how much I'd get now (DLL trial expired ).

In your case you should look into running the stock cat and cat back and installing a downpipe and electronic exhaust cutout. This way you can close it with a button for silence and open it with a button for power. Just make sure that when you tune the car the cutout is open.

Do catback first. You do downpipe and testpipe first, you'll just be choking your car.

Prob not, another response to the title rather than the thread.

You know, there are quiet exhausts available for the car, a B&B or Fujitsubo come to mind. I would think you'd get better gains from a 3" DP, a high flow cat, and a quiet exhaust rather than the DP/TP combo with the stock exhaust. Plus with the High Flow cat you stay emissions compliant, environmentally friendly, and you won't get a CEL. I would bet the B&B with a cat is quieter than the factory exhaust without a cat.

^^ I agree, I would probably get Fujitsubo but it was too pricy for my taste. I have Turbo-XS "on-order" which is not too loud either but most definitely louder than Fujitsubo.
My car started to be louder not really with the downpipe but with dp and high-flow cat (I have random technology one).
