Getting whinning in all gears

When i am driving my car in 3rd 4th or 5th and im about 2k rpms and i step on the gas it makes a whining sound that then goes away at 3k. Its the same noise as from shifting from 1st to 2nd. Its not louder neither it is quieter, its just as loud.Took it to the dealer and they said it was normal from 1st to 2nd but not in the other gears. I have always had this sound, i thought it was just normal AWD sounds since this car is so noisy. Also pointed out a sound that i get, its like a howling when im downshifting from 4th to 3rd or from 3rd to second and the clutch is depressed half way in. Tech said, noise is definitely not normal. Also said it cut be the flywheel, pressure plate, clutch or anything else. Will be taking the car in tomorrow. Sounds to me like my TC is on its way to go Anyone here have the same issue?, so i have an idea what to expect.

give it some cheese.

mine whines on lower rpm now like how you described. sometimes it's normal noise, since our tranny gears suck a ss, but more likely our tranny's going.

as long as the whinning noise don't amplify at high RPM then you're be ok.

I havent changed my fluids yet, i have close to 13k on the car. Mitsu told me to change it at 15k. I heard there was a tsb on the tc fluid but dont know if its a rumor or if its true. If my tc is blown i hope i get one that is shimmed correctly b/c then it will blow again. Hopefully tomorrow they will tell me whats wrong with the car.

If it makes noise when you are coasting in neutral it's your transfer case. If it makes a rumbling noise in gear when you are decelerating it is your transmission.

I had a slight noise with my stock clutch when downshifting. Kinda sounded like a squealing brake or something. The dealer told me that it was possible that the flywheel needed turning, but it eventually went away. It seemed I got it after I had launched the car a couple good times.

I just had my Exedy put in about 2 weeks ago and now I have a howling sound at about 60-70 mph. If I let off the gas it goes away. I think my transfer case was getting low on oil since I found a oil leak and it should be fixed today or tomorrow.

It sounds like I might have a transmission issue then but I'm not sure if it's normal and was always there. The deceleration noise was loud with the stock tires. The new tires are more quite and makes the noise more pronounce. I hope the sound that I'm hearing during deceleration is normal.

Sucks!!!!!

Replace your tranny, TC fluids before you go deeper in you drivetrain, and goodluck!

There are no noises when cruising in neutral. Basically the gears whine when accelerating between 2k and at 3k it goes away. Then when im downshifting, when im dropping speeds and the clutch is halfway in, it starts howling.Im aware of deceleration sounds.

Took it to the dealer today and has been dropped off. The service manager said they will drive another EVO and compare the sounds before doing anything. And they said they have to call a mitsu factory rep to give the ok or look at the car if its a TC or tranny issue before they tear the thing down. God i hope my car isnt foked!

Whining can be many things, could be alternator when its working hard charging your battery. Happen to me a few times when my battery had a low charge. Also, I have the same howl noise when downshifting but my dealership denies a problem with my car even when I reproduced the noise, and even extended the howl noise by leaving the clutch halfway depressed/released after in gear.

I dont know what the problem is, but I have no faith in my dealership. I'll ignore the problem and just proper rev match when I downshift.

Well the whining is the same sound as shifting from 1st to 2nd in other gears then it goes away. The howling sound i have the same problem as you. I showed them this morning 3 times so they are aware of it. Hopefully the dealer will fix it, if the car is messed up.

If you use Redline Shockproof in the TC, change it very often. It breaks down quicker than the diaqueen 90 weight from what I'm told.

I know guys that race with Redline and put in for daily driving.
