Need help or suggestions with turbos

I am planning on making around a 5 thousand dollar deposit into my car. It seems that building my own "kit" is the best price so I will probably do that. I am really only stuck on a few things that maybe some vendors may be able to help out.

First is the turbo:

Right now it seems that the GT3076R from Forced Performance is the leader. It is in essence the same turbo that my friend uses on his Eclipse FP3052. I have two problems with it though. First of all, everyone CLAIMS that it will spool only about 200-400 RPM's later. On my friends Eclipse it is slower than that. He doesnt have a header though but I can't see that making THAT big of a difference.

I am looking for a solid 400whp on pump (93) and 500 WHP on C16 Race. I also want it to spool at latest around 3500 RPM's @ 20 psi or so (Whatever it takes to get the 400). Is this a pipe dream or is there something out there that will do it? Please help. By the way, I do not have an EMS yet however I will be getting possibly the ECU plus (Allows for fuel and timing control) or the DSM Link (Same idea) soon.

Second is the plumbing:

Since I will not be buying a "kit" I will need someone to manufacture my lower IC pipe and the 02 housing. I want the O2 housing to be plumbed back into the exhaust. I will probably want to get a heat shield made up to seperate the manifold from the motor (Blowing all the hot air out the hood vent) to help control engine heat.

Third is the manifold:

It seems so far the Shearer makes the best manifolds in many people opionions. They dont crack, look good and perform well. I havent heard much about the RnR manifold but it seems like a good manifold as well.

The biggest question I need answered is different turbo types and who can manufacture my piping for me. Thanks guys!

I am doing the exact same thing you are thinking of. I have a GT3076 using an RnR manifold. As for spool up, I am hoping for full spool by 4000rpm.

As for all the piping, you will have to do them yourself.

I am sorry to be the one who brings the bad news to you but full boost at 3500RPM is not going to happened on that turbo. You might be able to make it hit full boost by 3800~3900 if you are lucky with all supporting mods. I would direct you to the 3071 but it won’t hold the 500WHP on C16 that you want (max of 450WHP). You have the 3037 as an option but it hits full boost by 4K and I have driven an EVO with one and 1st and sec gear did not hit full boost until 4.5K or so. about the under pipe I have a friend in CALI who is one of the biggest manufactures in the US in making and bending pipes so I can give you his name over PM. I only recommend aluminum btw.

good luck

I could live with 3,800 to 3,900. Will it hold the 400 on pump and 500 on race? PM me about the pipe guy. If he can make me a lower and upper intercooler pipe and an intake for the 3076R and make it fit well I would be very interested. I am also trying to locate a place to get the O2 Housing with the external gate plumbed back in. Thanks!

Thumbs up

if you have a 2.3L stroker kit, you could make full boost on all those turbos by 3500rpm or so. also if you have the AEM EMS, you could fine tune your boost mapping as well.a combo of both should yield you a flat torque curve up to about 9k or 10k rpm assuming you have cams & enuff fuel.

You have to remember that every manifold manufacturer uses a diferent location for the turbo. Which means the 02 housing, lower intercooler piping dump tube, and intake can all be in different positions.

I dont have a 2.3 yet. I may do it but not until next winter. I also dont have an EMS and probably wont until next winter. I have HKS 272/272. How much slower than stock spool is it? Honestly?

I understand the different positions.. that is why I am hoping Shearer will make them for me. If they dont I already talked to Road Race which will do it for me but it all kind of depends.
