evo under construction!!

Right now my 2003 Evo is ripped apart inside of a dealership garage awaiting a new transmission...however the clutch has major wear and tear so they are willing to install a clutch of my choosing for absolutely no labor cost...so I have been searching around and the most affordable is the ACT clutch that handles some odd 400ft/lb's...my modifications put me around 300horsepower to the wheels and my goal horsepower is 400horsepower...What I want is a street driveable clutch that can also go to the drag strip and can withstand around 10 launches each time to the drag strip...and also autocrosses

Does anyone have the ACT and how do you like it...or is there something else around the same price but better???

ACT is perfect for your application, streetable and it will last along time. The exedy twin plate for example, don't expect that to last more than a year at most under DD dutys.

you wont get tranny service on warranty after the dealer install it, that's the only down side.

but ACT's great. it'll take the abuse, as long as you don't drop them. Then go boom.

The gears were grinding in 2nd and 5th the first time around so they replaced the synchros, the gears, front bushings, clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. After all of that it is still grinding very badly, and when they drained the transmission there were metal shavings in there so they tore it apart and they decided to get a new tranny for it...however they said that my clutch isnt going to last that much longer and they said they would install whatever clutch I wanted for free labor...but they will not be working on my transmission anymore....

So wouldn't it maybe be wise to go with another stocker one more time just to make sure the new tranny is ok? You don't want to have this one break and then they say "sorry, you installed another clutch." That's probably why they're so willing to do it. Then if that works out, upgrade on the next go 'round maybe?

I recommend ACT, they are an excellent option for clutches, just be careful on your new tranny, it might end up like your first one doing launches at the dragstrip. Goodluck!

Hmm, this is a good thread for me because I wanna get around upper 300WHP-400WHP. I've got the stock clutch right now but I know it won't hold that.
