cams, oh cams....

Hey guys, im about to order some 272/272 cams but I want to know if anyone has any good reason as to why I should't get hks and a good reason why someone might pick jun, piper, tomie, etc over hks. When I say good reason please explain why. I did some research and I keep comeing up with, such and such is better or hks sucks blah blah blah.. ect. I have heard both great things (more so than bad) about hks but then I do here from some peeps hks makes a really bad cam.

just wonder how peeps like hks and if they are no good, whats better and why is it better? Thanks in advanced.

if you use the stock turbo the hks will be fine, but if you plan on upgrading it look into the juns, crower, piper etc.

if you look at the cams big name tuners are using (busher, turbo trix, vishnu) thier using hks... and making big reliable power. So if you owned your own shop and could buy any cams you wanted, and if you knew the everyone would be looking at your evo.... and still using hks then what's that say?

You will be fine with the HKS.
The other cams you mentioned have more lift so you will need springs and retainers. Which will add to the cost.

There isn't a reason on the planet to give a negative opinion of the HKS cams, which have a more extensive record of proven performance in this application than all the others combined. This isn't saying that the others aren't viable choices, it's just saying that the HKS cams work very well and virtually guarantee no disappointments.

Furthermore, I haven't seen one A/B dyno test that demonstrates that the more expensive cam sets make any more usable power, so take that FWIW.

Finally, the HKS 264 set is almost certainly the best set for all-around street applications where the stock turbo is retained. Bigger is not always better, especially where cams are concerned.

Ted B said it pretty well.

HKS cams work and work very well. They are priced fairly reasonably compared to the other manufactureers. Which by the way, in opinion, have NEVER been pruven to be worth the extra cheese.

Again HKS cams make great power...period.

You are a Vishnu cusomer and they went with 264/272s... why not ask them why. My experience in hot rodding has taught me the truth in what Ted states about running too much cam.

thanks for the input, I agree about the 264's but the 272's are going to work best for me and my future plans, Also note on my dads evo (my old one) we have 272/in 264 ex, goofy I know but that combo worked the best with his evo and gave him alot of power and his evo was one of the most responsive cars worked on to the mods, (straight from Andrew @ dyno4mance)
