So the EVO is going to the dealer on Friday...
I have been working with this dealer ever since I got my EVO. I have limited mods although they never ask questions and so far have done all recalls, and a few other warranty items without question.
On Friday I am taking it in for a tranny noise. Let me try and explain it. I am at 24k with stock clutch and only driveline mods are clutch line and removal of the tiny thing in the slave cylinder. The clutch feels like it is holding just fine. After normal city or higway driving when the clutch pedal is out you will hear this grinding noise - push the pedal in and it goes away. I have heard bad throwout bearings and this does not sound like it. And also on deceleration in gear(engine braking) there is lots of nice funky grinding noises. I know the tranny is loud although some of these noises may not be normal. Sometimes it will grind in second and fourth gear when I'm just driving easy.
What do you think?
Based on what I have read:
1. Clutch pedal engagememnt adjustment
2. Input shaft of the transmission needs better bearings
3. Original fluid may need to be replaced
4. Transmission may need to be opened up for further inspection
5. The clutch could be on its way out...although its not slipping yet

eh joe. i had the same problem. i thought it was the clutch dying since i have 22k on it, but when i opened it, it had a good 10k worth of life still. hopefully mine wont do it after the install.
btw. the dealer kept my car over night, since i dropped it off late, and said my clutch was shot. i dont think thats the case. i think they wanted an excuse not to open up the tranny. they quoted 800 for install w/o clutch .. 1200 with clutch.
thanks again for the help with the clutch install.

I go to Spartan Motormall in Lansing, Michigan. They have never discussed mods with me because the Mitsubishi tech understands that they are minimal and the ones that I currently have shouldn't affect the warranty anyways.
