SES Random Misfire Fix

Hello,
My name is Nate Pharr and I've played with turbo Mitsus for the past 12 years. Recently, a friend of mine brought his 03 Evo to me and he'd had the random misfire problem for about 4 months, and his car would misfire horribly during light cruising conditions. I found a way to fix it, and ever since then his car hasn't misfired once.

If any Evo owners local to the Philadelphia/King of Prussia area have had this happen, and would like to get rid of that SES light, please contact me through either PMs or email. $100, and I'll fix that misfiring problem, and if I can't get rid of the problem, I'll give you all of your money back.

Local owners only, please.

Nate

It's hard to listen to or trust anyone. Especially when you look at the dude's post count.

I have to agree with EvoTexas. Nate 'seems' to be out for some easy $$, and not wanting to help us P0300 people out (yes, I'm one of them).

It would be different if there was some proof or some secondary objective feedback. I'd be more interested if that were so.

If uou guys have any questions about just who this gentleman is - since he is one of the few who actually posts his real name on here why not do a google search on his name and see who he is ?

I'll give you a hint - if you line up next to him you will prob be loosing

Its remarks like those of Evotexas above that make all the wise and knowing 4G63 folks over on teamnabr laugh about us on evom

Whether or not he is sharing this information for free and what exactly is involved is a totally different story than calling him names.

Dude, don't be flaming me. I'm not calling anyone names.

I'm just a pretty hesitant person when it comes to my car. It's my baby and a huge investment for me. This P0300 vibration and code have been so fustrating to me, if there's someone who claims they have a fix, I want to know more. That's all.

So do a google search on this guy and you'll see who he is.

The old 2nd gen eclipse cars also had 0300 code issues so the 4g63 guys had some prior experience with dealing with that problem

Yeah, you can put teflon tape around the threads or some people have used washers to space out the knock sensor further. Does this fix the problem or the symptom?

Here is a little info about misfire. Misfire is mostly caused by noise or EMI, and is ussually caused by running sparkplug wires next to each other . The flow of current through these lines are high which can inflict high EMI (electromagnectic field) But on our cars we have resistive plug leads which do help to receed the problem of the noise caused by the wires running in parallel to each other. Another problem could be an electrical leak in the lines. It only takes a small hole for voltage to leak out through and cause arcing which can interfere with the signals to the ecu, giving you a P0300 code. You can try twisting the lines at cylinder 1&3 or try shielding the lines and see if this cures your problem.

Cody. Stay out of this thread; your hospitality stinks.

Nate is well know in the east and campaigns a low 11 sec maroon Gallant VR4. He can field strip a 4g63 blindfolded. At one time (Turbo Magazine) he had the fastest VR4 Gallant in the world. He is well qualified to offer a fix and ask a small fee for his labor to fix a tough problem many owners have. If you the have problem and live in SE Pennysylvania PM Nate for details.

In the mean time the rest of the country is screwed? How about making an instruction manual and selling this info to some of us other evo owners?

Posting like that, for those of us too far away and seeing his solo post are both pissed and suspicious, naturally.

I'll be hoping to hear something about how to fix the problem, not about how someone can take advantage of a situation very frustrating to those of us with $30k+ cars.

... more background on the individual and anything to add credence to the claim along with an offer to help us all would be seriously considered.

Well, the car I did this fix on was finally scanned at Turbotrix. Bean and the customer found out that while it fixed the misfire, it wouldn't clear the code. So, in light of this, I have to rescind my original offer for the $100 fix, and have to update it.

If you're getting the misfire, and want to get rid of it, and don't care about the CEL, I'll send you instructions for getting the misfire to go away, but your SES will most likely stay on. Since no one in the local area has come forward, I have to assume that my "test" car represents the results that most people will get. If still interested, contact me, the new price is $35, and it *could* void your warranty, if you care about that sort of thing.

PS. If anyone out there can get me a copy of the OEM ECU code, this "fix" will be free for that person. I don't need any code that has been dynoflashed or anything like that, just the base code that Mitsu sent out with the cars. Letting me know which revision it is would be helpful, but not absolutely necessary.

Nate P.

*Confused*

So the light will still come back on or you can't clear the originating misfire's code?

I know how to clear the code manually with fuses - I'm about to go to the garage and do it again.

Are you saying the light will come on even though the misfire doesn't occur??
