Need Help - Low boost in cold weather??
Need Help - Low boost in cold weather??
Hello All,
I've come for some expertise from the Evom group, any and all help would be much appreciated. I will first give you my car specs...
2003 Evo 8 - Mods: Dynoflash (Mail in)...that's it.
Last summer I put in a boost gauge. Found that the dynoflash works and was holding close to 19psi every time I got on it..which is great.
Anyway, I live in Wisconsin and obviously it's cold outside. I've now noticed that I'm only getting a MAX of 12psi and mostly caps out at 10psi through all gears. Currently it's about 40 degrees outside and I just got back from testing this.
From all the reading I've done, cold temperature shouldn't matter and really should be giving me another 1 or 2 psi anyway.
I re-T'd my boost gauge just to be sure there wasn't a leak there. One odd thing I noticed was that my upper IC piping that runs into the intake manifold was ice cold. This is usually hot after a long ride...
Any ideas on what I can check or do to fix this?
I'll be down at AMS tomorrow getting my Turbo back put on and I'm going to ask them also. Please help

Well, the factory ECU holds boost to the levels that you mentioned when the engine is cold. So, I'd ask, "Does it do it once it is fully warmed up?" I noticed that it takes a few miles(and longer in the winter) to get the engine warm enough for full boost.
Do you have any boost leaks?
My car's boost rises around 2 psi when it gets cold. Luckily, I have a EBC and I can turn it down.
It seems like you are running low boost (19psi) for a tuned car. I am running between 21 and 22 with my dynoflash.
You may have a faulty BOV or your IC silicon connections leak in the cold? Just some ideas.
This sucks man, I hope you get it figured out!

Yes, it is doing this after being completely warmed up.
I may have AMS throw a BOV on there tomorrow and check for any leaks. I do find it odd that the Upper IC piping is so cold though, shouldn't that be pretty warm? When I say cold, I mean like as cold as it is outside, even after a half hour ride.
