Question on upgrading the intercooler?

I had a WRX and wanted to upgrade to a front mount. They said that Ill have to up grade the turbo, Because big front mount = slow WRX . Now my question is this the case with the EVO also??? Or will I be fine with upgrading to the TURBO XS unit with no problems.??? Can some one help me with this. And also will I see A slite gain??

Thanx.

With the evo it will not make you loose hp, you will get more pressure drop compaired to the stock FMIC but this is a given, a bigger IC takes longer to pressurize. After it is filled with air the air will be cooler in most cases, bar and plate design can cool larger amounts of air better so in the summer you won't have as much performance loss. You are also buying yourself insurance and being in the correct path so if you ever do upgrade the turbo it is one less thing to buy. The stock IC is a nice piece but there are always room for improvement.

Just keep your IC piping 2.5" and don't go overboard on the size of the IC and you should be ok.

Tho, for the $$ i'd look into cams or something

I think with the stock turbo the stock intercooler is just fine, I don't plan on upgrading mine anytime soon. Although I would upgrade the piping first.
