8.8:1 for US and JDM versions.

Yup, it's been 8.8:1 since the EVO IV...

No, no...don't listen to him, he's just screwing with you. The real compression ratio is 8.8:1

Isnt the STI only running 8.0:1. What are the exact direct benefits of higher compression. I know it makes more power but what are the downsides and where is the power gain most noticeable...etc????

well..i'm not too sure about this buut...with a higher compression above 9.5:1 you have more low end power and a longer power band. with lower compression under 9:1 where a turbo is used there is lower low end power but greater high end power where the boost is because it take a little bit of time for the boost to be used to its fullest.

i think thats right but i'm sick and on lots of medicine so i'm probably jus wrong.

Benefits of higher compression:more fuel efficient, able to make more power at lower boost pressures than a lower compression engine runnig at the same boost level.

Down side:Not able to run as much boost as a lower compression engine, usually can't make as much peak HP as a lower compression engine. (you can usually make more HP with more boost and less comp. than with less boost and higher comp.) and more prone to detonation.

Sounds like you're trying to start an argument with me or something.

Actually this argument wouldn't be any different then most arguments on this forum between the STi and Evo freeks. They basically agree and say the same things, yet they argue over it. I could list a few names, but I won't have to, as they will probably start arguing over this post.
