75% chance it does.
Where do you get this data that 3 out of 4 stock BOV leaks?
Did you pressure test a bunch of evos?
I tested mine and it held at stock levels.
Please don't spread misinformation without some hard evidence.

hahah.... what's it matter... he didn't want anyones opinion on bovs. he was just trying to understand why most say they cause problems. the stock bovs are plastic and have been known to fail. so I upgraded it. my hks is recirculated, but it still stumbles at idle every once in a while. my car has stalled maybe 2 or 3 times since I've had it, 5-6months. so don't hate.

i have to agree, i just got a used type s from someone who sold their evo, i'm currently playing w/ the springs and etc, but after taking off box and putting in intake, the stock bov was pretty loud. i'll try playing with springs a little more, but there is no more improvement over stock, unless you are running more boost.

Get the LLtek or the Go-fast d-BOV. It's the Hybrid valve which recirculates and vents to the atmosphere. I have mine set at 50/50, sounds like an 18-wheeler BOV and recirculates at the same time. I have no issues of idling funny, dying or anything negative. It's a tunable Divertor / Blow off valve. Highly reccommend it.

gadsmevo - take a look around. i personally dont know a single person (and being from CA i know a lot of evo owners) whos stock valve hasnt had problems.

there will never be hard evidence to get a actual number, but theres more than enough proof.

it all depends on what boost levels you run...more than likely the stock BOV will not leak at stock boost levels, but chances are if you're modding your car, it wont be running stock boost for long. bottom line get a forge and call it a day!

And I have seen evidence to contrary. If you run stock boost most of the time they don't leak.
If it doesn't leak no need to replace it.
I replaced mine because I'm runing higher boost. I don't get replacing parts that work just because of something you hear on the internet. There is better places to spend you're money, until you actually need it.

so you agree that the stock valve will leak if you increase boost.
so you think he should mod in other ways first?
seeing as how most people would recommend a TBE... and that is shown to increase boost by a pound or so... wouldnt that then make the stock vavle leak?

why wouldnt you replace the weakest link first?
whats the point to upgrading if you are hindered from the get go.

Wow... it is proven that the stock BOV will leak. It's spring it not designed to handle more boost. You need to do more research if you think I am wrong. As for the guys car that stumbles or dies while having his HKS BOV recirculated, you need to adjust it. Adding a BOV on a modded car WILL give you more HP because it won't leak. I have a BOV and it isnt for the sound... anyone using a BOV that recirculates only some of the air is doing it for the bling sound ( While is fine if thats what your into).

If you just want your car to sound better put an open filter on it, it makes it sound like your venting to the atmosphere.. it is extremely loud. That will give you more power than a BOV would at this point. Try it.. it will cost you $50 and you will probably be happy. That way when you get an upper IC pipe down the road you can still choose which BOV you want (It wont be one that is designed to fit on our upper IC pipes).

I second that.
USDM MR's did not come with the metal BOV's. The have the same crappy plastic ones as every other model.

JDM MR's come with the metal BOV.
