Leak at the exhaust manifold...?

I happened to open my hood today to tweak my boost controller and a little water rolled off the hood onto the exhaust manifold. It landed right where it mates up to the engine, and there were tiny bubbles coming from the seal...similar to what a very slow leak would look like on a tire. Should I be worried? The manifold was not cracked and it is all stock...well the exhaust manifold anyway.

I saw the same thing on my car. I washed my car and it was bubbling on the exhaust manifold (gasket between engine and manifold), furtherest one to the left passenger side. I was going to take a picture but the water evaporated before I was able to. I'm also wondering if there's a leak there.

The exhaust manifold gasket could be bad. You should get them replaced soon

Do you know if this will effect engine power and spool-up of the turbo? Is stock gasket the only replacement?

Was the car running?
Maybe it was just boiling off?
Is there any blackening in the area?

I was thinking the same thing...water vaporizing on a hot manifold could look like a leak....

I will check about the boiling possibility tomorrow. I thought the same thing b/c there is no soot...just rust.

Yeap the car was running and it doesn't appear to be blackening in the area. Water was boiling off but I didn't understand why only at that spot. I guess I need to try it when the engine is still cold to see if the water also bubbles.

If you had an exhaust leak at the manifold, you should be able to smell it as it is uncatalyzed.

Also, if you had an exhaust leak under the hood, all the fumes will come in through your vents when you're sitting in stop and go traffic.

Yep the fumes is already coming in because I have a breather on . I put the switch in recycle when the car is not moving and in idle.

bump!~

i just put my maxford manifold on this weekend and i'm having this problem. I bought a brand new oem manifold gasket from mitsubishi to go on it. We replaced my o2 housing and exhaust mani this weekend and a few things went wrong.

when driving now, tons of oil gets alllllll over my downpipe where it is connected to my o2 housing (we had to reuse the stock o2 housing donut... thing (dunno what its called)

we think we may have broke my turbo oil retune line and i'm in the process of buying another right now. also on the way home i gave it a quick pull to see if i had any boost leaks or anything and the car pulled very nicely but when i put in the clutch because i was approaching a light, my rpm's held at 4k and went down VERY slowly.

i called my friend steven and he told me that it sounds like a manifold leak (which is what made me search this thread out)

can anyone please give me some insight on how to fix this without taking off all that stuff again and putting a new gasket on (because it was brand new). also because it took us all day to do it ourselves....

my car is supposed to be tuned on saturday.... this is really depressing me :<

I had a DC sports manifold crack on me, and i heard a valve-like ticking noise, i thought it was my lifters....if there is a leak, you'll know it. its probably just the water boiling off...that is the hottest part of the car i'd say
