miss with H2O/Alcohol Injection

Anybody else have an occasional miss (during full throttle boost) with any type of injection (water, water/methanol, alcohol)?
I'm not sure if my miss is due to additional pressure in cylinder due to injection.
I may have an ignition problem or I may need more fire power to get through the additional pressure in the cylinders caused by the water/methanol injection I'm using.

I had a slight miss at full throttle with my methonal/water injection on my Talon. I closed the gap on my spark plugs a bit and that helped alot. I later upgraded to a better ignition system and never had that problem again. Now that I've installed my Aquamist set up on my Evo, I'm going to look into upgrading my ignition system soon.

water injection

I'd like to know how much you paid & which Aquamist kit you used and how you made it work on your EVO.

it's about 300+ for the base model that just injects based on boost .. the top of the line is around 700+ with MF2 controller that allows different rates of injection depending on load

Mine is tapped to the 3.5qt windscreen tank in the back .. the water is sprayed about 6-9inches from the TB

I am using the Denso IW-42's and have great luck. When I went back to the snew tock plugs the car ran pretty bad. It seemed to miss a little and was prone to stalling and loading up, the Denso have been great and they are even a heat range colder.

Are you using a priming pump?

With the decline of the dollar, those prices are on the low side.

Aquamist 1S: $550 (simply injects a fixed volume of water above a set boost point)
Aquamist 2D: $840 (scales water volume with injector duty cycle)
Aquamist 2E: $740 (used with standalone or piggybacks that can drive an injector)
Aquamist 2S: $990 (fully 2D mappable)

I fixed it.
I replace plugs with NGK BPR7EIX, gapped to .028. Also, leveld out my boost, I was getting a spike around 4500-5000 (building to peak torque). Leaned out fuel a bit a backed off on timing slightly.
I had recently increased my water injection jet to a .5mm (from .3mm).
I guess I just needed to tweak my tune.
Now it's pulling strong. No miss or knock running 22psi on 91octane with 11.8:1 afr. I love this water injection.
I'm still looking into the Switzer (sp?) coil-on-plug set-up or HKS twin power.
I don't really buy into the Nology Hot Wires.
I called MSD. They don't have anything for our cars because our coils have a capaciter built in.

Good to hear that you fixed it. I am also looking at the Switzer coil set up or the HKS Twin Power. I had the Crane Ignition Box on my Talon and I never had an ignition problem again.

jj_008 no priming pump .. I had problems with the water delievery so I added a check valve .. solved the problems ..

Bishiboy, are you running any sort of controls for the aquamist ?? I'm running 0.7mm nozzle and I STILL find it too small !!!! I calculated the requirement based on 10% fuelflow .. and I get around 250cc/min .. I can barely support that flow with 0.7mm .. hmm .. maybe I do need to get a priming pump

I'm not using an Aquamist system. I have a coolingmist.com single stage set-up. 100psi pump, nice solenoid, pressure (flow) indicator, clogged injector indicator, low fluid level indicator, boost pressure switch set at 15psi activation.
When I calculated the flow required I took my injectors, 660cc (verified by RC eng) and injector duty cycle, 84% max. 660X4X.84=2217.6cc (of fuel),
(15% water to fuel): 2217X.15=332.55cc of water
my .5mm injector flows 4.9gal/hr, converted to cc/min = 309cc (close as I can get).
I'm assuming it's a .5mm injector, it's labled M5. Coolingmist refers to it as "4.9gal/hr" injector. The M3 I had was labeld as "3.9 gal/hr".
By the way, my total cost was less than $300. Not as high-tech as aquamist, but the price was right. Their pump is actually adjustable up to 160psi. I could bump up the output pressure to make up for the 23cc I'm short, but it probably wouldn't be noticable.

what do you mean by miss? If we wanted to get alky injection we would need to change our ingnition system as well?

^sort of. You run water/alky primarily to supress knock and run more boost. More boost takes more spark to light off and may challenge the stock sytem.

Your ignition system must be always at it's peak performance when running any sort of water/alcohol injection system.
