SS clutch line - how much of a PITA?
SS clutch line - how much of a PITA?
Sorry, but I've searched and searched - I have 14k on the stock clutch, and I have a SS clutch line - would it be worth it to install it now, or just wait until I replace the clutch itself?
Thanks. I really do want to "do it!" - I was just wondering from the people who HAVE done it if it's worth doing now, and not later, when the stock clutch goes.
I mean, it's not a garage, weekend, MBC, intake, TT, don't really have the right tools kinda thing...
Anyone?

I can't see where it would be that much easier to do when changing the clutch. I installed one of these on my 03 Evo and then reinstalled the stock line before I sold it. It's not fun. I haven't had the motivation to do it on my 04 yet.
Tech Tip: Put vaseline on your hand when you are trying to replace the banjo bolt on the new line. It really helps. Or you can do it in the middle of the summer when you are sweating to death after struggling with the line for 30 minutes.

i hate to say this but i hear its not worth it...i have an SS clutch line in my trunk for almost a year now. I got an ACT installed and forgot to get it put it then, but the new clutch feels great to me...i don't know, i think its more of a "PITA" than its worth...just my 2 cents
Thumbs up for you guys who tried it or knew someone who did, and actually knew what I was talking about - I got it for free, and now I see why the guy was so eager to give it to me after I paid for a round or two.
Maybe I should put it up FS / will trade for cheap MBC?
Thanks again, folks.

banjo bolt and crush washer
One trick to try:
the crush washer that goes between the banjo and the reservoir is a real pain and always false off of the bolt and down. Believe me, it will fall into places you never thought of.
What you can do is put a small amount of radiator hose lube on the surface of the washer. This will allow it to stick to the banjo and not fall off of the end fo the bolt.
You can try and see what happens.

I've installed a SS clutch line in my EVO twice. The first time was a super PITA because the line I got didn't have the bend at the banjo fitting like the OE line. After futzing with it for an hour with no luck, I ended up taking out my clutch master cylinder to put on the banjo bolt.
I later noticed that the WORKS SS clutch line has the bend at the banjo fitting. So I decided to go w/ that line since I'm pretty **** about parts fitting well on my car. I was able to install the WORKS line in half an hour. The banjo bolt went on the 2nd time I tried.
You do need some special tools to install one of these, some experience working on cars, and a LOT of patience. I was careful enough not to lose any washers.
As for whether or not this is worth it, I'm not sure. I think you should try removing the clutch restrictor first before attempting to switch the line. I only noticed a marginal improvement after installing the SS clutch line.
Good luck.
