I think that even with stock power a particularly hard launch can destroy the front diff. That's one of many reasons why competition is not covered under the warranty... It all depends on your driving style and what you use your car for.

Its true, it can break at any power level depending on your driving habits and driving stlye. Many evo owners have blown their front diffs with 6-7k clutch drops at the track and you can also brake them in auto x. Get a lsd if you dont want any problems(Quaiffe). The 05's have a helical lsd and acd so that might help

While one tire fire can lead to diff. failures....I think wheel hop is the biggest killer. I have had many a fwd car and have one tire fired all over the place, esp. around a local road course do to the open front diff. I never grenaded a diff. because of 1 tire fire. Now, my buddies GST convertible went through 3 diffs due to wheel hop at the track. So I would say wheelhop is MUCH more abusive than 1 tire fire.
