AEM Short Ram installed last night!
Hey all,
I installed my AEM Short Ram intake on my 05 GSR last night. I started around 6:30 and finished right around 8:30. Overall, the installation was pretty simple. There were a few troublesome bolts though. The turbo inlet hose that attaches at the turbo is held on by a bolt clamp, and that was a royal pain in the *** to get off. Even with a flex driver, the bolt was near impossible to reach. The radiator fan shroud is sharp as hell and my hand was literally dripping with blood when i was done getting it off. Also, the bolts that hold the MAF to the stock box were a pain to unscrew. 3 came off without work, but the last came off didnt unscrew until I used some real brute force.
After reading on EvoM about all the issues people have been experiencing with their intake, I was skeptical and practically expected detonation. The battery terminal was unplugged for quite some time and I drove her around for a little while so the ECU could adjust before I really pushed her. After varying load and RPM conditions and driving for about an hour, there was zero signs of detonation, and idle was unchanged from stock.
And now the info you really care about:
To sum it up in a word, this intake is amazing. Off-boost sound is practically stock, but once the turbo starts to spool, you can clearly hear it and it sounds like air is rocketing into the filter. The stock DV is also audible, and is really pleasent to the ear. It's not so much a high-pitch tone as it is a louder rushing air sound.
Power has improved as well. The ever-popular butt dyno says there was a noticable power increase. Turbo spool comes sooner and the car pulls harder after peak boost all the way to redline. I'm no engineer, but it feels like the torque curve was widened significantly. Because I did not get a baseline dyno before the mod, I won't be able to measure the power gain though....oh well...
Hope some of you found this interesting....

I got it from Injected Performance for $178 shipped to my door with UPS 3 day select. It was a very good deal!
I'm at work right now and I don't have my camera, so pictures will have to wait until I get home tonight. I'll post up a few then.

Is your car stock, and without some sort of engine management? If so, you'll probably lose performance at the cost of that "cool sound".
Do a search, and you will find what I am talking about.

I have the same one, and I like it quite a bit. Sound is nice, my install was a bit hand-cutting as well, and I did drop a little performance after doing it...but it's worth it. Other mods coming to fix that problem, and I like that the sound isn't overwhelming, but it's there...very nice.
I just installed mine today and my hands are feeling the pain. Lots of little cuts from the fan shroud. Does really sound good though. Btw, I got mine on ebay for $150 shipped. There is a company on there that sells them all the time for that, just look in the ebay stores section.
