use the search.

i'd assume he actually means the lower DIN kit. It puts a standard DIN slot in the bottom where there's a storage bin now.

List price for the AEM EMS is up there yes, but the street price is below $1500. Lots of options for that much money but then again, it isn't for the average guy. You will find that you can easily spend that much on piggy parts once you add it all up.

Back to the title of this thread... Ty here at the shop puts holes through 1/2" steel flywheels with his FAL .308 so I know for a fact he could probably make a through and through hole in an EVO tranny. No it isnt bullet proof ;-)

Well said PePe...

Yes I agree... The transmission although is not a 6 speed like many of the new ones, is very strong and sturdy and can support alot of power. It was designed to be strong and go along with the awd drivetrain.

Norris design in England is running 715 hp and I calculated over 600 ft*lb of torque on std Evo 7 RS drivetrain apart from shotpeened gearbox internals. He is expecting some breakages.

M.A. Developments car is 412 HP with 440 ft*lb torque. standard trannies.

The Evo gearbox has been different form DSM cars since the EVO
III. Pretty damn strong.

Trying to get 400bhp with an assortment of piggy backs is not the easiest way to go. I think a good stand alone ECU would be better and cheaper.

So forget the tranny worries and start looking for clutches.

Hi Erik and thanks,

Many DSM tuners use ACT 2600 clutches here. The clutch delivers most of the engine power to the wheels and drive train breakage is not uncommon at 350HP and above.

Do you know what clutches M.A. or Norris are using? And how they compare with the ACT 2100 thru 2600 series with the heavy duty racing pucks?

Thanks....

The UK Evos all seem to go to one of the Japanese Twin plates for anything more than 320 Ft*lb of torque.

AP organic (ask for the heavier plate) or the Helix uprated clutch for anything around 320 ft*lb of torque.

Then on to HKS, Cusco or Exedy twin plates (there all made by Exedy/Daikin anyway) for anything higher. They are expensive and seem to wear out with street use.

Other options are the new AP Twin plate for the Evo. It will be similar to the STi 22B clutch and should have decent drivability.

Norris Designs has a Twin plate that he has developed also. I have heard good things about that one too.

The stock clutches suck. 6 hard launches then they’re dead. So I would love to have the option of a good American high torque capacity single plate clutch. It would be cheaper with better drivability than anything out there. The clutch can use much higher clamping pressure since the stock clutch has a super light action at the pedal.

I call ACT a month ago and they were not interested yet. I have been talking to Stillen also to see if they can get that project going too.

Good info and thank you! The more I read about my new car, the happier I am it is not my daily driver. LOL. Lets see...

1. Every 3000 miles - Oil change
2. Every 5000 miles - clutch
3. Every 10000 miles - Tires
4. goto 1
