EXTREMELY annoying rattling nooise from engine bay FOUND!

FINALLY!!

OK so i noticed this noise on deceleration after i installed my 10.5 hotside. This noise is a pretty loud rattle when im coasting in any gear. Also if i free rev in neutral it will rattle when the rpms drop around 2000 to 1800. So finally today i decided that it had to be something to do with the hotside. I took the top heatshield off and i listened more closely. It started to sound like it was coming from inside the head. I took the valve cover off, nothing was loose. Everything was nice and tight. I jacked the car up and put it on jack stands and ran the car. I got underneath the car while it was running and tapped the exhaust and tugged on it trying to see if the noise made any types of changes...nothing. FINALLY i was at my wits end, i took a look at the wastegate.

hmmm, i seem to remember the flapper being quite loud when i was installing the hotside. Maybe this is the noise. I press on the lever and open the throttle. no noise! i get my fiance to listen for hte noise too, when i stop pressing onthe flapper the noise comes back when i press on it, the noise goes away. im SO Glad i found this problem, the only thing that sucks is that i have to remove the bottom heat shield to get to adjust the wastegate arm. And that looks to be aPITA without removing the radiator. Ah well, i love working on my car so it w/ill be fun no matter what.

Hopefully some of you that have some rattles will find this helpful.

So the issue was the wastegate sealing off itself or the actuator? Your description is the closest I've seen to what I hear coming form the engine bay. I hesitate to take it in to the dealership and screw me on warranty. The noise isnot constant and it seems to get loud when at no throttle and if I turn the A/C on (just discovered that recently). I don't remember hearing it until I had some issues with the boost control solenoid (had the duty cycle at 75 in my 0 load site on the UTEC).

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but how did you fix the wastegate arm. What needs to be done exactly?

Anyone care to help me with this? How do I adjust the stock wastegate arm without causing any change to the boost pressure it can hold?

I had the same issue after i installed my o2 housing that i had to remove the hotside.. I noticed everytime i reved i was getting a rattle, took it to mitsu and those idiots said my turbo was blown LOL!! It was the wga arm that wasnt attached tight enough to the flapper... After i adjusted it, it went away.. I was about to buy a IX turbo bc of what they said

yeah, I understand. But its fixed there with a clip (as you can see in the picture before install). How did you tighten it? I mean, what did you do, tighten any nut or anything?

Here's a picture for reference.

You will need to remove the clip and turn the buckle.. I adjusted mine while the wga was still in..

Yeah, you just take it off and turn the turnbuckle clockwise down the rod to tighten it. Don't go too far, though.

Sorry for being such an a$$, but can you tell me which one are you referreing to as the turnbuckle? Please refer to the picture: is it number 1 or number 2?

If it is 2, then should'nt I turn it anti-clockwise?

thanks.

wastegate arm has to have some preload if not your boost will suck.

i was driving without having the clip on, i installed my 02 housing and 10.5 hotside but wasn't able to get the waste gate arm back onto the flapper. I tried to loosen it with 1 (in the picture) but it didn't budge. I am curious as well...
