MR Transmisson Grinds

My 6speed tranny grinds or clunks a little or seems like not goin in smoothly. Sometimes it goes in like a hot knife in to butter. The problems seems to be in the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. My car has has bout 410mi on it should I worry or just needs more time to break in?
TIA

i think it might be the thick tranny fluid that keeps the main shaft from slowing down fast enough for the synchros to get into the next gear. I would think a thinner weight fluid might do the trick. i'm gonna give it a try here eventually.

The clutch is all the way down to the floor, I even hold it there for a quick sec and it still does it once in a while.

The trans needs more time to break in. My trans needed 3000 miles. You just need to take your time and let it break in properly. Don't force the shifts and put it into the gears slowly it will eventualy shift good.

I've got 9k on the clock.

You guys just need to learn how the evo shifts. It take a little bit to get used too! I never grind my gears anymore but every non-evo driver who has driven my car does! I have 85K on my 03 EVO and I have driven several MRs. The tranny is different but operates the same to me!

Mitsubishi synchros have a long history of being unreliable. Just try to break in the transmission gently and like Redcloud said, learn when to shift. Also, don't forget to ditch the factory transmission fluid for BG Synchroshift II or something similar. It will help, but eventually the tranny will have to be repaired if you drive the car long enough/hard enough. Its just part of owning a manual AWD mitsubishi.

Notchy is par for the course with evos. It will get better slightly over time...the "notches" will be more consistent and expected.

Grinding is a problem. Give the car 2-3k miles to really break in the tranny....if it still grinds take it in. Dont mod your car obviously until you figure it out.

My car ground lightly a couple of times when the tranny was cold (dead of winter). But i have about 5.5k miles and it hasnt happened in quite a while. The shifts are a little notchy...but the nothes are always the same so i get used to it. Come with the territory on mediocre cable shifters.
