tranny/engine ticking/cluttering noise help!
heres a lil backround, I just picked up my evo a few days ago, previous owner had an exedy twin carbon clutch put in. Tonight I took it for a few rips down the street, came back home, took the key out,(turbo timer was still running) got out of the car, and stopped right by the driver side fender because i could hear an audible "clutter" I dont know if its been making that noise from the start, or if im just starting to notice more things about it. I tried to listen from under the car, it sounds as if its coming from the tranny, or lower part of the motor, Alot of people are telling me its probably just because i have that clutch, but being new to evos i just want to make sure its nothing serious like rod or main bearings, the car runs fine, pulls strong. It makes that noise in neutral and in gear when revved up between 1-3k, its not a very loud noise, hard to describe, sounds like marbles in a can maybe, also when the car turns off, you can hear that noise once louder than normal like...CLUNK...instead of the clunkclunkclunkclunk when you rev it up at idle. Hope someone has some insight. thanks!
Has the car been yours since new? what mods are on it? do you have an engine dampner on it? ut would be on the passenger side next to the valve cover. I have had the exedy twin metallic/ twin carbon, and now the triple carbon from exedy. They are inherintley noisey, the triple not so loud as the twin. once you depress the clutch, you can hear the noise. make sure you have stock fluids in it, ans you can check other posts I have had regarding this, Click the cartoon next to my name. You should also call JON at TRE( team Ripp) in kalamazoo, he will talk your ear off and tell you what your problem is!!!!!!!! good luck! PM back if other questions
