If it makes the noise in neutral and reving then it isn't transfer case since nothing is spinning. It sounds like a broken or loose crank pulley.

Yeh, neutral rev is fine. although, my prediction is that within early next year, I maybe calling Sheperd racing or BR for a built tranny...

I wish I knew what everyone heard just before their t-case died...

I just hope my internals are ok tomorrow. that's really all I have now, the engine, since my tranny is shlt.

Ok, so, I will be checking for these tomorrow at the dealership.

I don't want to take the cover off, because that maybe the one thing that's holding everything together.

Car is still driveable, so I'll let the Misubishi guys look at it.

here is the list:

timing belt
crank pulley

compression test (to see if my valves or any other components failed due to whatever it caused it)

spark plugs, (if needed changing)
fuel pump
injectors

crank sensor (coils)
camshaft position sensor.

I think that's about it...

I really hope it's not something major... I just can't take that right now... not before a mile long auto x that's coming up.

ok, let me know what this looks like.

I went to the dealership and they told me everything was fine, without even looking at it.

talk went something like:

dealer guy : "how many miles on your car?"

me: 40,000 miles.

dealer guy: hmmm, the timing belt looks and sounds good(without even opening the cover up) . Why don't you ride it for a while, then come back if you get that code again.

me: what if the cams are out of alignment and it blows the valves and then pistons?
dealer guy: it wont.

me: are you sure?

dealers: yes.

me: what about the sensors.

dealer guy: just drive it around and when you get that code again, come back.

here is the picture of my cam gears and timing belt.

i don't know where the mark is, so I could find out if they're matter of fact, off.

See those notches at 11 and 1 oclock (sort of) on the red valve cover ??? The marks on the cam gears will align with them when the crankshaft is at TDC. Go to the www.evomoto.com website in the tech section and look for the cam replacement section. It has some pics for reference.

well, from the looks of the cams there, it doesn't look like my cams jumped time.

man, i wish there was an easier way to see what the hell is going on.

the car drives fine...

it was raining, and you know the cam angle sensor and the crank sensor is right where at where the rain could get in, and moisturize it.

well, I've found out that it was the swaybar, like I was suspecting, and not the cams.

What happened is that the exhaust is fairely close to the hotchkis bar and whenever the exhaust idles, or car turns, it'll bump up against it.

And that bump noise traveled upward toward where the down pipe met up with the 02 pipe.

I'm sorta relieved. But I just want to make sure though.... I think I'm going to the dealership again tomorrow morning to see if they see anything wrong with it...

well water in the cam sensor connector will cause those codes. How low on gas were you at the time? Did you maybe run it really low so it was starving?

hahhaa.. bro, you make me laugh cause i flip out the same way. I thought my engine was about to explod all last week after doing cam gears, fpr and fuel pump.. i was pulling p0171 and p0134 codes and have been for awhile before though i assumed it was for running a high flow cat... stupidly never checked the codes. but my sudden fear of the car blowing up is the equilvalent of a honda owners butt dyno when adding a few stickers.

The car makes you paranoid but it is a wonderful machine. My 02 sensor was damaged and was causing my car to run super rich..(but reports lean since the sensor is out).. new sensor will get here friday

yeh, i was flippin out. I'm still half *** flippin out.

I think every time my car stalls, is whenever it's raining outside or it's low on gas, or both.

I think I had this code before, when I was low on gas and when it was raining.

anyway, I'll drive it around for a bit and see. If it blows up, it'll blow up. Nothing I can't do about that.

Anyway, I had about 3 gallons of reserve gas left when this happened. I filled up all the way and it was only 10~11 gallons.

But the light was on for a bit, going up the hill, hitting a bump on the way.

but this happened when I was pulling into the driveway...

dielectric grease.
You can get it everywhere, usually put on plug wires to keep the boots from sticking to the porcelein. It does not conduct electricity so it's purpose is to provide a silcone like seal without conducting electricity from one terminal to the other or letting the electricity out to ground as is the case with spark plugs. It is a clear grease that looks like a clear silicone RTV.

I also posted in that Dynoflash thread.
