Limits of stock valvetrain
I plan on taking my BR Stage 3 to the dragstrip Friday night. I feel confident that I will trap over 110 but less than 115. My question is with the 272s in there can I safely leave my car in fourth gear instead of shifting to fifth gear at 110 in the 1/4? What is the maximum I can take my car to on the stock valvetrain. I did some testing on a "priveate road" and every time I was at 7k RPMs in fourth gear before the 1/4 mile. So should I shift to fifth and lose some time or leave it in fourth?

with your mods 4th gear will be more than enough to finish your QM run.. dont put into 5th gear until you hit 120MPH or so (which you wont on your mods)... you are safe up to 7800RPM on stock head and bottom end..
good luck

I have the BR Stage 3 flash from Dynoflash. I was just curious because around 110 im right at redline in fourth gear. i have never taken it in the red before and I wanted to post up before doing so.
redline on the engine and redline on the tach are 2 different things. Stock valvetrain will take up to 8,000. Just dont start banging it off the limiter , if anything right as your hitting rev limiter about to cross the line just depress the clutch, rather then shifting 5th for no reason
