Penzoil Synchromesh is not rated like other oils. Example GL-4 GL-5.
There other oils are rated.

> Gearplus® 80W-140 GL-5

> Gearplus® 80W-90 GL-4 and GL-5

> Synchromesh Fluid ?????????????????????

> Synthetic Gear Oils 75W-90 GL-4 and GL-5

There Web site below.

Other members have only said good things about Synchromesh.
When I hear a negative comment then I will start worrying.

PENNZOIL® SYNCHROMESH FLUID is NOT intended for all GLS applications. You
must verify the manufacturer’s part number, indicated by a superscript number and found at the end of the vehicle
application listing.

So is it really safe for Mitsu tranny. Someone should contact Pennzoil and get the right answer.

Recomendation for Mitsu.

Article favoring Penzoil Syncromesh.Third paragraph.

http://www.stealth316.com/2-pennzoil-synchromesh.htm

Owners of Diamond Star Motors (DSM) Eclipse, Talon, and Laser cars with MMC (Mitsubishi Motor Corporation) transaxles have reported positive experiences using Synchromesh. The same can be said for owners of the Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth cars with the Getrag-manufactured AWD transaxles. The main benefit to DSM and 3/S owners seems to be excellent synchronizer performance, with reduced grinding and easier shifting compared to using some other gear oils.

Yeah, but what is it doing to the bearings? My main concern is that since it doesn't have a rating on it, that it may cause problems in the long run. I plan on putting it in on Saturday, so I hope that it will be ok.

I'd say change it every other oil change (about 6k) as it does break down... I've been running it since about 3k and am at about 43k now. Nothing but good things to say... however, I DO NOT DRAG RACE! I'd want a heavier fluid if I were, to help with the shock loading.

Change Oil

I believe he means change the synchromesh every 6 K.
Change the engine oil every 3K.

Fluid

Remember , The synchromesh is only for the tranny. Heavier fluids needed for
transfer case and rear end gears.

i will probably get flamed for this, but i have 47K and the only times I have had the fluids changed was when i had the 5th gear syncro replaced and the t-case replaced.

i wanted to just bring it to the dealership, but recently the dealer that is around here has changed to mostly a used car dealership and the techs there are absolutely stupid. the last time i had my car worked on to replaced the seal in the t-case, they crushed my oil filter and didnt even replace it. they also broke my oil gauge and denied it.

i need to find a good dealer here in ct.

or I might just have pruven do it when i have them install my cams

I had the Syncromesh in my Eclipse with 400HP for about 60K miles total, 30K fluid change. When the car was totalled and I sold the trans, the guy who dis-assembled it said all gears were within factory specs, he thought it was a new rebuilt trans, so for anyone who has doubts this should help convince you.

I know Jon from TRE says to run the Syncromesh and change it after 5k. Sychromesh is thinner and allows the synchro to speed up and slow down quicker giving you smoother shifting at high rpm.
