I would not go through the trouble of putting the clutch restrictor back in. I don't think Mitsu would go through the trouble of taking things apart just to check it.

When evo's starting making holing and whining sounds or grinding after the fluid change its b/c theres a possibility the wrong fluid was put in. Im lucky mine didnt blow b/c the first time when draining, almost no fluid came out! Idiots at forgot to refill it after it comes from the boat. I would drain it asap and put diaqueen in it to see if it helps. Good luck. Pray that its not the TC!!!!

^^ He was talking about people trying to get free warrenty work when they are at fault.

Changing the transfercase fluids is not that hard but there are a few tricks to make it really easy.. As long are you're using the right amount of OEM fluid.. I would think you should be ok.

Yeah, I used Diaqueen. Just thinking to be safe I'll redo it tonight as well as check the fluid and bolt for metal.

I dont see how I could have done anything wrong the first time - took out the fill plug, few drops came out, took out drain plug. Then filled it with Diaqueen until it started dripping a bit from the fill hole...

Double check the fluid level in the TC. I spoke to TRE about the best method of changing the TC fluid. They recommended spinning the driveshaft during the fluid fill to get as much in the TC as possible. Or they said fill it to the fill hole, then wait 20-30 minutes for the fluid to settle and top it off. It sounds like the fluid takes a while to fill the TC and could lead to the fluid nlevel being too low which would make noise.

Ah interesting. So lets say my fluid is a little low, could this have done permanent damage to the TC already?

I've driven it about 35 miles since...

Depends on how many miles you drove and how low the fluid is. Most likely it is fine.... low fluid is better than none. Take off the metal inspection cover on the TC, this will catch all the junk. If there are shavings they will get caught in the cover. You can use RTV to reseal it and reinstal it.

I ordered a mag drain plug for the tranny and a rectangle magnet for the TC that fits in this cover from TRE... should be here soon.

Did a search on how to remove and reinstall that cover, didn't come up with much though

Sounds like its a little out of my league...

Should I drain/refill the TC, make sure its full, and keep driving, or start taking the bus to work and have mitsu look at it?

I'd say drain it, fill it using the spinning wheels technique and try again.

Well, car seems to be okay for the most part. I drained the TC fluid and refilled it using the spinning wheels technique. No whine or weird noises during acceleration/decel.

The only thing that I am noticing is when I am turning hard left uphill, I get sort of a clunking noise that sounds like its coming from the front passenger side wheel area...Any ideas?

I had an intermittent clunking noise, but it went away...it was always at very low speed and turning up into a street or up into a parking lot. I figured it was the springs and they were shifting around, not sure. Maybe it is the diff...but if you are going slow (even in a full lefthand turn), I doubt anything is being damaged.

just imo.

Could be where you had the car jacked up and the springs are reseating.. I notice this after having my car up in the air.. except my noise is from drivers side..

I think i'm going to change my t/c fluid tonight.. the spinng wheel thing sounds like a good idea. I usually change my t/c fluid every other oil change anyways
