I've been told that this knocking sound is common on 4G63 motors at low idle. I could be wrong. Mine does it when the idle dips real low too.

thanks g8r...

i caught up with a buddy during lunch... he has the same set up as well.. he somewhat had the knock... but not quite as loud as mine... it has been brought up that i'm just being too **** about the new mods to the car...

then again... that doesn't explain the idle dipping like that

Did you check all the lifters to see if you could compress them?

Two things....the tick in the 4G63 is very common. I had it in my 98 GSX and I have it on my Evo.

I also get the idle dip when I slam my hood, but only for a second. Timcatz u said that could be a bad MAF sensor? I have an intake now, i dont remeber if it did it before or not. It doesnt seem to affect drivabilty - sorry for jacking the thread.

Correct me if Im wrong but don't the cams usually do this? Maybe I missed it...but are you flashed or anything like thaT?

pushed the ball down on every one... no problem...

my idle dips during hard braking... dips down to around 500rpms....

could it be a BOV adjustment?

Wow.. theres no normal reason it should do that.. mine falls faster due to the 10lb flywheel but not below 900rpm

If you have an adjustable BOV, loosen up the spring tension.

how do you verify if the MAF is still good?

looking at the honey comb? no bends...
their's a slight oily sludge building up on it....

is it advisable to adjust the BOV (Greddy type RS recirculated)... never really had a problem with it till now

well the honey comb reads air flow so if there is anything no it , it will impede that...

Man, what you are experiencing is NORMAL. Even with straight 264's, your idle will sometimes dip. That's just how the stock ECU works. Likes to 'try' different settings.

The only way you're gonna clear that up is with a flash. They pull timing from idle to get it to become more stable.

I had the cams, both straight up and -3/-1.5, and the idle was never fully stable. Ran the Xede for fuel and timing control.

Switched to Dynoflash, idle is dead steady. You wouldn't guess I have cams unless I pointed it out.
