Boost not coming on tell 3rd gear?

I can't figure out if this is normal or not since I don't know anybody around me that has an Evo. I have about 650 miles on the car and I notice that I don't really get any boost in 1st gear. I get some boost in 2nd gear and pretty good boost through 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

So I thought it could be a boost leak so Friday night I took off the front bumper and tightened up the hose clamps that I could get to. Then saturday night I finally got a chance to floor it in first and it pulled extremely hard through first and second gear. I was extremely happy because I thought that I had fixed it . Then today I gased it a couple times through first and second and it is back to how it was before. I just don't get any kick in the *** through 1st and 2nd like I do in 3rd and 4th. Is that normal?

Happy Mother's Day

So you guys get the same pull through all gears? Some gears don't pull harder than others?

Evo pulls like mad in all gears once you hit 3000-3500 rpm.

Do u have a boost gauge? u can buy 1 for 45 bucks (autometer) u can just connect one with a plastic "T" and run it trhough the door and inside the cavin termporary just to see whats going on. without having to do all the wiring and having to run the plastic hose trhrough the firewall .. Monitor the boost gauge and come back and let us know .good luck

Is there anything I can do myself to check the wastegate actuator? Is there any links of where it is and what it does. From google searches it seems to be what opens up for boost . I don't really like to bring my car to the dealer so if it's at all possible for me to check it that would be great

Yes, maybe ur wastegate actuator arm is loose, or who knows maybe ur flapper ? lets hope not . But checking the arm is easy, get a llong screw driver and try to move it out of the pin it shouldnt move at all .. open ur hood its the only piece attached to ur turbo other than water lines oil lines n DP, it looks like a hat with a long piece of metal incerted in it, can someone provide a pic?

Take it back to the dealership. Make them fix it for free.

I called the dealership this morning and I told him about it not having boost through 1st and 2nd. I told him that I would like to have the wastegate actuator checked and he said he had never heard of that . Hopefully there is a smart retard down there. I'll let you know what happens.
