Question What do i need with cams and gears?

Hi, I ordered my cams (Hks 264/272) with Hks cam gears. Do i need a new timing and a shaft belt? If I only need one of those belts or none please let me know so I can use the money could be used for something else. Also which brand belt would you use if so?

You have everything you need to make a cam change and get the most out of it, so save your money.

AFAIK, everything is reusable. A cam timing tool from a Mitsu dealer is not a bad idea if you're going to tackle the job yourself.

Here is a good step-by-step guide:

Put the cams in and enjoy them. They made a huge difference for me. On the drive home, up a canyon road, I basically went up a gear for the whole drive. Leave everything else the same.

It is a good idea to change your cam seals, they are pretty cheap. You can pick them up at your dealer.

When ever you take off the timing belt you should replace it.. you should also get a new balance shaft belt and valve cover gasket and 2 new cam seals. youll need a engine jack due to the fact that you have to take off 2 motor mounts and lift the engine at an angle.. its roughly a 7hr job to replace everything.. the cam runner bolts should be tq'd to 20lb just rem that...

i had always heard that you should change timing belt unless you have under 10,000 miles on it when changing cams. i don't know how much truth that holds, but it seems to be the norm in the dsm community. personally i'd prolly just change the seals like said before. i got mine for $14 online.

If no one noticed he has an evo VII so it probably has some miles on it.
Put both belts on it and use Mitsu parts.
Ideally replace the tensioner. Check the tensioner and idler pulley and replace if even questionable. Couple hundred now or a couple grand later, your choice.

You don't need the tensioner tool (threaded rod). You really need the tensioner pulley tool.

Good point. I saw the "VII" in his signature, but I ASSume everyone here is speaking of an EVO VIII by default unless indicated otherwise.
