boosting high for stock? i think i am

i think im having some high boost reading on my blitz turbo timer i think. im only running hks down pipe, perrin cat delete, and hks ti exhaust. my blitz turbo timer is saying that the highest im boosting is at 1.52. isnt that high? let me know what you guys think. 1.5 bar = 21.7557 PSI right!

If you dont have a boost controller, thats about right. That free flowing exhaust is making it spike, and you dont have the boost controller to bring it down.

Or don't worry about it. No harm will be done with the extra 2 psi. It is only good for more power. That is most of the reason behind the great WHP gains from getting an exhaust on these cars.

Yea unless you get a bad tank of gas....bye bye engine. I would spend the money and get it.

I'm one of the few people that ran a boost gauge and datalogger for a week just to see the baseline behavior of the Evo 8 bone stock. Basically the car from the factory will spike to 21 PSI boost then fade to 19-20 PSI at the lower rpms and drop down to 16-17 psi by redline. The boost spike only lasts about a second and can be more or less depending on what RPM you got on the throttle. That's the problem with devices that measure peak boost, it's just reading the spike more than likely. Get a real boost gauge so that you can see what is going on without relying on a turbo timer to read your boost levels. You could also slowly roll into the throttle (versus mashing the peddle) at 3500 reaching full by 4000 and see where it spike to, it shouldn't be more than around 20 PSI.

As for MBC I've had really good luck with the Dejon Low/High dual boost controller. I just mounted the switch in the panel just above the headlight dimmer and can choose 18 PSI or 21 PSI now without popping the hood. How fast the MBC reacts has alot to do with the bleed hole to release the boost pressure in the line. Smaller holes spike less but can give slower spool since the trapped boost can hold the WG open longer especially between shifts. Opening the bleed hole too big can cause it to take longer for the boost to build in the line and delay opening of the WG so the boost spikes more, not to mention you are leaking boost to the atmosphere. They supply an extra connector so that you can try a different bleed holes to adjust the boost spike depending on what range of boost levels you intend to run, with higher boost benefiting from a slightly larger bleed hole. I would aim for a 1-2 PSI spike to get the best spoolup from the turbo.

Get a boost controller......20.5psi is about the upper limit on pump gas and stock fuel system...

That is what Al from DynoFlash told me....

The Evo will spike to 33psi with the wastegate disconnected.
Depending on the efficiency of your cooling system (air) the little stock turbo will fade to about 25. We have run this on pump gas all day long here with 93 octane. BUT the car has been tuned with an AEM EMS. The stock internals handle quite a bit of power. Much more than 20.5 psi from the stock turbo and safely now with 60,000 miles and counting.

man just get a flash, my car was doing the same thing b4 i tuned and i kept hitting bosst cut at around the same psi. my car would cut all power and backfire, then back to normal. It doesnt happen to everyone, but you need a tune. a boost controller isnt the best way to go.
