Act Clutch Help!!
Act Clutch Help!!
I just got my brand new act street disc clutch kit installed yesterday and when i was driving it, somehow it made abnormal scratching noises (sounds kinda like worn out brakes) when i turn left while driving. And another thing is that the clutch grabs pretty high as if it was kinda worn out. is that normal for the act clutch? In addition my 2nd, 4th, and reverse gear wont engage fully. My 2nd and 4th gear will only go in about half way. When i try to reverese, it would go only for about 2 seconds and then pop out. Does this mean i need to break it still in or maybe changing my tranny fluid might help? ALL of this did not happen until the new clutch was installed.

The ACT clutch and probably any aftermarket clutch catches at the very end of the throw (high).
Did you by chance get ss line? Rebleed your clutch and or let it break in some. Mine use to be horrible to get into first now its not as bad as it was. I have to throw it into 2 more times than on the stocker to get reverse to go, but these are small set backs for a great clutch.
anyone else with suggestions? Would changing the tranny fluid with Penzoil Syncromesh help? Im just paranoid because my gears wont go in fully and this did not happen with the stock clutch...
thanks for the help so far guys

U sure your Break pads arent low. check the Inside pads they wear quicker on my car.
Its not the tranny fluid. That wouldnt make it sound like you describe.Especially since it should be new fluid anyway Sounds like a bad install. Have your mechanic make it right.

So i just want to make sure that when you change the clutch you dont have to change the transmission fluid right? so it should just be a bad install then? thanks guys

That sounds a bit bazzare. I can't explain the noise since it happens when you turn and our clutch is usually quiet. The engagment point is usually middle to low and may require adjustment to make it engage higher, not lower, so that is unusual too. If you are having trouble with the gears not going in all the way and pops out, that is a shift linkage or tranny problem since the clutch will not limit how far a gear goes in and certainly won't make it pop out. It may be something real simple like a loose bolt. It sounds like an install problem, but obviously without looking at the car, I am just speculating. If you have further information, let me know.
So i have the ability to adjust the engagment point? And i still dont know why the gears wont go in all the way...its just that it started to happen after the clutch was installed....hopefully my mechanic and fix it...thanks for the help
You have to change the fluid when you swap the clutch. With the axles out, fluid would be running out all over the place if you didnt drain it before you dropped the tranny.
It sounds like you may have to re-bleed the clutch line and/or adjust the clutch pedal under the dash. This is pretty common after a clutch install.
As far as the grinding noise, its hard to say. Maybe something didnt get bolted back right. Like an engine mount or something near the transfer case. Thats causing some kind of binding or whatever. Its hard to say without lookin at it in person.
Did you have a reputable shop do the install. If so, you need to take the car back to them and if their worth their salt they will make it right. If not you may have to take it to someone who knows what their doing and pay to have them correct the problem.
Where are you located? If not to far I could take a look at it for you. I did my twin disc install myself and it drives better than stock.

Sounds like more than one issue here, but the left turn thing could be the wrong oil or no oil is in the TC. 2 reservoirs with 2 different oils get changed out. One for the tranny and one for the TC. Put the wrong one in the TC and it will go poof. Consult your owners manual and follow it exactly.
Engagement points settle in on some clutches after a few hundred miles. High isn't necessarily bad when first installed.

hmm so to make things certain...Do I NEED TO CHANGE THE TRANNY/TRANSFER CASE oil too when i change my clutch? because i just dropped off my car at the shop and my mechanic said that he did not change the tranny or transfer case oil and it is okay to run on the same oil i had before the clutch install....i have about 7k miles...
