vacuum source, and boost ?

just wondering if I have it all wrong.
I took a tee off the vacuum line that comes from the bov to fit a pressure gauge and aftermarket ecu. It worked fine for a long time, but I wonder if that is a good tap or not.

btw, reason I ask, I am getting low boost readings and from reading through the search pages it seems like the main reasons for low boost are leaking lines and missing pills. It does not look like I have leaks (?) and I know I have the pills, unless I ingested one.

how does one define a dying turbo? progressively lower boost? what are the signs?

on another note, should the boost solenoid be active at idle? I have an aftermarket solenoid and noticed it was busy while I was feeling for loose hoses.
