Question Cold Start Issue, Please Help!

My Evo is mostly stock. Its an 04 with about 12,000 miles and all I have done so far is a 3” TBE (stock cat). So for the past 2 mornings, I go to start my car and it turns over fine. After it starts up the tac drops down to like 400 rpm and lops around like its going to die. It stays there and struggles to keep running for a few seconds then the idle kicks up to about 1,500 and slowly drops too 1,000 rpm until the engine is warm. I don’t know much about cars but I do know a new car shouldn’t have this kind of problem.

I was thinking it might be some type of fuel system issue? Has anyone else had or heard of this cold start problem?

Sounds like a dirty iac (idle air control valve) motor. The 1500 dropping down 1000 sounds correct.

If that's the case, I'd pull the battery off for 20 minutes to reset the ECU. Plug it back in, drive for a few days and see if it still is a problem.

My car has started to do similiar things. If i start it up after it has been sitting awhile and do not put my foot on the gas slightly, the rpms drop and it will stall. Now it has only done this randomly and only a few time, but this is something new that has just started. My car only has a TBE and MBC, but they have been on for some time now. Anyone know what the problem is, same as the guy above???

my 05 had the same problem at around the same milage. i replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the filter on my intake. that seemed to do the trick.

Make sure there no Leaks in the system on the Intake turbo side especially because the turbo will pull in Unmetered air. That Might be a prob? Just tryna help
