280 Cams and Stock Turbo?

looking to put in some cams hopefully soon but was wondering if the 280's are overkill for the stock turbo?
I do plan on upgrading to a 3071 or the like
but for a whlie it will be run on the 280's and a flash
I have a 3" TBE w/ test pipe, Hallman MBC and I have a fuel pump waiting to go on when I get tuned

will there be any idle issues with the 280's w/ a TurboTrix flash besides the lumpy idle?

hows the powerband?
I see most of the people using these cams set them straight up at 0,0 so I dont need cam gears

whatcha think?

TIA

I'd go w/ the 280's especially if your goin to upgrade the turbo...the mid and top end had great gains..

any stalling issues with such a lopey idle from the 280's?
did you raise the idle to compensate?

My friend has 280's as well on the stock turbo and he loves the idle. No stalling issues at all.

TTT, same question. pluss will the 280's work with dynoflash. Also is there any real loss in power when compared to 264's/ or 272's. So many mixed reviews. nly time i really care about power is while at the track drag racing. rest of the time my car is at 11psi for a-b transportation. But i want the most out of it when i do run it. thanks. Sorry for bring back and old post.

I had concern the higher duration would cause a loss of vacuum affecting the booster and thus the brakes.

Thanks for the laughter since it was such a stupid question.

280's will work with the stock valve train. THe lift on the 280's is the same or less than the 264's and 272's. i believe both of them are 10.2mm where as the others are 10.2 on one and 10.8 on the other. I think the idea with these is just long duration for the aggressive profile as opposed to HIGH lift.

don't sweat it kid, people try to find any reason to flame on here...i know i do when i get in a bad mood. As far as i know it doesn't affect the brakes. I just installed a set of 280's on my bestfriend's evo. The car hasn't stalled out on him yet, but it does have a REALLY lopey idle. He's getting a custom Dynoflash on saturday, so we'll see if Al can tune it out a little. i know Buschur increased the idle rpm to acct for the loss in vacuum.

The 280's have alot of overlap, so idle vacuum will be pretty low.. so things such as vacuum operated accessories may not operate correctly all the time, but they will still work... The Brake booster will work fine as long as you don't pump the pedal too much at idle.. most of the braking will be done when you decelerate, so you'll have plenty of vacuum at that point.

Actually, don't forget to match the adjustment of your DV/BOV with the lower engine vacuum.. that may be a bigger source of headaches than anything else.

And I plan on running 280's with a stockish turbo, although I think their radical for some people who are nitpicky about idle quality... But If you have bigger plans for the car, its fine, you'll make power no matter what with a good tune.
