Car won't idle.

I'm at work so I need to keep this brief. 2 days ago a wave crashed over a wall and sprayed all over my car... I shut the car off right when it happend, but I still ended up fouling my plugs. I went home and cleaned the plugs off and the car ran fine. Today I wake up and go get gas. The car is running fine when I pull up to the pump, I pump 10.00 in gas and try to start the car and it starts hard, then instantly dies. The car will not idle, it revs fine and drives fine, but whenever I push in the clutch, or anything, it dies unless I rev it. Any ideas? someone at my work told me it could be water in the gas... would this have such an immediate effect? The gas lines would have still been full of the other gas when I first start it after pumping... This sucks.. thanks for any help in advance

-Josh

Do you have an intake? Maybe water got in it. Or you might need to change your plugs.

Have the HKS RS intake with a custom box around the element.. I'm sure it got wet and fouled my plugs.. I took them all out and cleaned them very good. Then the car ran fine after that. I drove it for a day fine and then put some gas in and it wouldn't start... I adjusted my throttle cable so that it idles at about 1000, but it seems to vary from 1000, to 1500 to 2000 some times... i'm stumped.. i'll change my plugs and see what happends i guess

spent all freakin weekend trying to figure this out.. all new gas, new spark plugs, no luck. I let the car warm up, and then I adjusted the throttle cable so it was idling perfect @ ~1k rpm. but now i have NO cold start... I have to pump the gas to get it to start, and then i have to keep pumping the gas to keep it idling until it is at 100% operating temp.... and still the idle will occationally drop down to ~400 or so... this is really driving me nuts.. Any other suggestions?

I also noticed I can kind of hear the walboro now, unlike before when it was completely silent.

have somebody take a sample of the gas you put in, it could be contaminated with water. if it is then they need to flush the whole fuel system

Will water continue to contaminate the gas even if it's 3 tanks later? Thats interesting and could be my problem...

I read a post on here yesterday about a gas company using bad gas that clogged people's injectors. Your car fits the description of the problems everyone was having. Maybe, just maybe you received some of that bad gas. I think it was in the Northwest region and it wasn't just one gas station, it was a whole bunch of them. What gas station did you fill up at and were you on or close to "E"?

Check to see if something "washed" up into your intake and is stuck to your MAS. I once put a panel filter in backwards and one of those tiny cotton seeds got sucked up and stuck to the MAS. Samething, car wouldn't idle. Sucks when you all of a sudden don't have power steering getting off the highway. Hope this helps, worth a shot anyway. Good luck

If it is just water, buy some "dry gas." I think that's what it's called. It will take care of the problem.

you might have to clean your maf... salt/sand could be on it.. along with the throttlebody and intake pipes.
