Need some suggestions on next mods for 11's
Hey guys,
I went out to the track last night, and after alot of tuning with the new SAFC and datalogger against my dynoflash, I managed to get the car to run consistently in the 12.2's @113 with no knock on C16 and a 26 psi spike. 02's were around 0.92 at redline. This is coming from a start of 12.6@107 with 1.02 O2's, at the start of the night, it was pretty hot and humid out as well. Around 75-80 degrees, very sticky, Im in south FL. Anyway, I feel the car has an 11.9 in it with better weather, and if I could get it to hook up, all 3 passes at 113 mph were with spinning through most of first with mid 1.7 60-fts.
BUT, I wanted to know what you think my next mod should be to get me there a little easier then having to rely on perfect track conditions. So what is a better next mod, the 10.5 hotside or the Buschur deluxe FMIC with the lower pipe? Buschur claims 15whp with the FMIC, but I am in South FL where its very hot out most of the year so I was thinking a bigger IC might benefit me even more then a dynotest in Ohio against the stock IC. I could be wrong.
The 10.5 hotside Im still a little unclear on. I hear you will run the turbo out of boost faster with it when you have cams, meaning you wont be able to hold boost above 21 psi which is what I am holding now to redline. I dont know if this is true. Im also hearing 15whp with this mod as well. So technically combining the 2 should yeild around 30whp increase. Either way, does anyone know if the 10.5 will need to be retuned greatly, or can I compensate it on the AFC. The one thing that sucks about a reflash is worrying about new mods...
Also, Im still running the stock MAF pipe, any gains from going with aftermarket like the Buschur? Then again theres always nitrous, but Im looking for gains for everyday as well cause Im bored with my car's performance (been a while since i did any power mods). Looking for people with experience with the parts and what they did for you. My current mods are in my sig. Thanks!

I thought about alky injection, but that wont really give me any more then the power I made on C16, although it would make it possible to run that fast everyday. I was looking for some things that would add overall power, not just a race gas substitute for high boost.
AEM EMS
Port and clip stock turbo+10.5 gotside
FPR
660cc inj.
Fuel rail
Water/Alcohol inj. kit
Intake kit
02 Housing
Enxhuast Manifold
IC kit
Forge Acurator
Blow off
IC kit
Ported TB
Ported IM
Bulit head
Do these if yous have money!

fmic maybe 10hp
intake pipe (maybe 4-5hp)
Addtional fine tuning might get you some serious power:
really push the tuning with an ems
push the ign timing up with a racegas specific reflash
push the ign timing up with larger injectors/AFC retune
The nitrous kit will show awsome power gains. I put the stock turbo back on my evo and went to Island dragway last friday and ran 112.4mph on 93 pumpgas without any major retuning of the ems at 21psi.
Then I turned on the 40shot of nitrous and ran 116.5 mph on pumpgas with a horrid tire spinning launch at the same boost setting. Im pretty confident with some tuning time, I could run as much as 70hp worth of nitrous on pumpgas.
nitrous will make the most power gain of anything you can do at this point for less $. It's not an everyday/everytime use item though. I only turn it on at the track.
Im planning on making another trip with the evo to the track with racegas, higher boost, and a 75-100shot and trying to get a new best time. This is where the nitrous really shines. you can take your 12.2 @ 113 car and make it run mid 11's at 120+ for $750 in nitrous parts.
IMHO a better mod for track times than a turbo kit factoring cost and drivabilty. I really like the stock turbo torque and spool, and woudn't want to deal with a 500hp turbo that would be needed to run 11.5 @ 120 that the car runs on the bottle on racegas.
nitrous is great...make it your next mod!
Using Nitrous To Spool Up Turbo Only
This may sound like a really stupid idea, but humor me. What about using a nitrous system with the EMS that just helps spool a big turbo and then turns off once you are at full boost? Say have it spray a 30 shot only from 3000-5500 rpm when at WOT. Would that be workable? Seems like that wouldn't use too much nitrous but would make a hella difference on the street with a 2.0/GT35R combo. What do you think?

Were you seeing any knock spraying it with pump gas? What was your AFR and timing at? What mods were done to your car to run 112 on pump gas? Thats moving! My best mph on pump was 109 also at Island Dragway back in October, in very good weather conditions. I havent done much to the car since then, only the AFC so I can tune it myself. It just runs slower down here in the heat
. Thats why I was asking about the bigger IC possibly being more of a benefit for me then someone up north where the stock IC is adequate enough. The way I see it I need about 30 more whp to have a solid high 11 sec car, then I can add the nitrous kit and take it down even further. Or, I could just add the nitrous now, and do the other bolt ons later
, what do you think?
