Engine tapping/nuetral rev

Ok, I come home from work tonight, and when I rev the car in nuetral, I hear taps randomly. I dont know if its my engine or underneath the car... (i think its the engine)...it dosent do it at all when idle, and I cant hear when I'm under load (because of the exhaust and spool of the turbo). I never heard this before. I heard it well since i park between 2 cars under a carport.

I'm thinking lifters? I hope its not a rod!! My car is acting normal though, I dont notice any difference in strength.... please dont scare me, but what can it be?

same thing happened to me 3 months ago...i heard it slightly and then a few months later...BOOM....blew the bottom end...it starts around 3k rpm's and its quiet...you wont hear it with your stock setup..becuae i didnt hear it when i took it to the dealer the first time....but it turned out that i snapped the rod later on down the line...so be careful and take it to the dealer IMEDIATELY....i can bet you that its a rod...but i really hope its not...if you have to pay for it, its gonna be almost 10g's to fix!

what??? are you kidding?? 10gs????????????????????????? And I can't go to the dealership!! I'm heavily modded. Looks like Ima have to build the bottem end. Anymore input from anybody?? I only started hearing it tonight, and only in nuetral when i rev...not when i idle. Take a look at my mods. I'm just barely making 400awhp....

I starting hearing a smiliar noice last week. It sounded to me like a deep engine noise which is always a bad thing. It could be heard best with my mear inside the left front wheel well. Anyway I had someone depress the clutch while I was listening and guess what?? No more noice. What a relief that was. It must something with the throwout bearing or something. Give it a try and see if it goes away. Good luck.

it may be the lifters. i changed out some cams once and the car clicked for a minute or two like loose change was inside the valve cover. It stopped after about 5 minutes; i guess they just had to refill.

10k to fix a bottom end???? holy crap. You can get a fully built, stroked, and balanced block installed for that much, and a new valve train and head probably. WOW.

Open your hood and rev the engine while leaning over it. You will likely be able to hear if it is coming from the lifters. I can hear a slight tick when I rev my engine in neutral, but I don't think I've ever heard it with the hood closed.

Is there a true way to diagnose this problem? I'm getting real worried.

sounds to me like a lifter tick from the cam install.
