cams installed?
I got my gsc 272/264 cams installed yesterday. Is it supposed to make alot of noise in the engine bay, like loud tapping. I also got my 6.5 tme installed. the boost now seems to come on slower to me, can that be right? can some one let me know?
Did u install the cams yourself? How many miles have u driven in ur car with the tapping noise? What your hearing are the lifters trying to fill up with oil. If the tapping has been going on for a while, then u should bleed your lifters in order to release some oil pressure. There have been many threads started on the whole dreaded tapping noise after doing cams.

yup what he said...
Mine taps slightly. I did them last weekend and it was pretty noticeable after initial start-up, but it has since settled down quit a bit. I still need to change my oil, so after that Im sure it will disappear.
As far as idle, it depends on cam gear settings an engine management. Im running no gears and a Vishnu stage 1+ map in the xede and its a bit loopy. Once the gears are installed it will be like stock.
With the TME boost will be a little less responsive due to the larger turbine housing. It could be exagerated due to poor cam settings. If you have a 274/262 set-up idel should be really close to stock-like.

Also did you install them top dead center , and did you use the stock or aftermarket camsgears... I installed my 264I/272E about 1.5 months ago and yes there is a louder tapping .. nothing to worry about.. idle should be a lil rough .. but once the car warms up it shouldnt be as bad... what cams did you get.. I have HKS and HKS gears as well.. Also did you change the timing belt(should be done ) and balance shaft and tensioner belt....

After i installed my cams i let my car idle for about 15-20 minutes, and then revved it up for another few minutes in order to get some oil going through the lifters. I had a tapping noise for about 5-10 minutes, but it went away and it never cam back. My idle right now is pretty lopey, but its untuned, so it should mellow out. I actually didn't bleed my lifters, so i guess i got lucky or something. I actually know a bunch of people who installed cams and didn't bleed their lifters and never got the tapping noise. U might also wanna check to see that ur rocker arms are still seated properly. Those things easily fall out of place!
i have loud tapping/knocking noise after initial start up for like 3-5min
but when it reaches normal operating temp. i dont hear nothing, very quiet!
is this somewhat normal for the cam(gsc 264I/272E) that i have ?
what do u think timzcat? the knocking sound is still there ~
i m sure u bled lifters,,,,and i trust ur work!

i installed the gsc 272/264 myself. bled the lifters and everything. on initial startup there was some ticking. i let it idle for 30 seconds and then held it at over 3000 rpm for 30 seconds. i repeated this cycle until ticking was gone. the idle is rougher than stock, but i like the way it sounds. almost like a warning call to potential opponents. these are the best mod i've done thus far.
I had a local shop install the cams. I don't know if they drained the lifters or not. but i will find out. I'm not really to sure if the noise i hear is normal or not. does anybody know how to insert a vidoe image so you can hear it.
Well 1st of all you put a 272 intake, and a 264 exhaust, IMHO this is a backwards setup. You suck in all that air, and it gets chocked on teh way out. Also, the 272 intake gives you a poor intake vaccum, so yeah your Idle would e poopy without ANY tuning.
I woulda got atleast 264 Intake and 272 exhaust. Gives you far better intake vaccum, and then you have the huge exhaust cam to to pull up top which is important to get that hot exhaust gas out.
I run 272's, Idle is very good but every now and then it gets confused a little.
Mine are silent BTW, they were since putting them in over a year ago.
