Megan Racing Downpipe Install

I just bought the Megan Racing dp and was wondering what the foam-like piece is used for. It seems to fit in where it would connect in the front up by the turbo. Do i need to put this piece in and if so what is its purpse? It seems like it would be somewhat restrictive.

Thanks,
Eric

I do not have a pic of it at the moment. This piece is not part of the dp, but it looks like it can or cannot be used.

If you are talking about the donut gasket then yes, you need to use it. It will leak like crazy if you dont.

Yeah you have to remove the factory gasket and put that one in its place. And it's not foam, it's metal. I just installed the same pipe onto my car last week. You may have to widen the hole for the hanger. Because my supplied bolts are too big for the holes. Yours may be different. I may just get smaller bolts.

Megan downpipes DO NOT use a donut gasket! They mount flush... hence, the flex section.

They dont use the spring bolts because they have a flex section. You need a chisel or screwdriver and a hammer to get the original gasket off, it's lead so it is on there GOOD. Then just drop the new gasket in the top of the downpipe and bolt it up with the new bolts.

Before you get under the car though, make sure the supplied bolts fit in the hanger holes. Mine didnt and I had to drill them out.

So the original donut gasket will be stuck on by the turbo, it will not come out with the dp, then i will need to remove the old one. Then place the new one in the megan dp and bolt up?

yes...let me know how you were able to tighten the nuts atop the outlet without taking off the lower heat shield...the bolts for mine are tight, but the nuts arent exactly. anyone get alittle rattling with theirs at WOT also?

I just installed the megan DP last night, I had to grind down the stock spring bolts so that they fit the flange holes. I had to get other bolts to use on the hangers in the back. once that was in the fit was ok. For $139 i guess you have to do a little work. wonder if they ever tested it on an evo before they finalized the design.

I installed megan downpipe today. Let me tell you, Many saids this pipe fits 05 evo. Yes it fits alright but it will rub against trasnfer case and rattle. I will say this thing doesn't fit on 05 evo. Don't buy this if you are 05 evo owner.
It touches transfer case and doesn't clear the front lower bar. I had to use exhaust wrap as a insulation for the transfer case. I am not sure it will hold the heat well. Also, megan don't supply bolts for hangers.

Megan has come back to me (in the last day or two) to say that they are seeing rubbing on "some 05 downpipes". They say they will have a revised version in a month or so. I asked if they were going to do an exchange program. The reply was that they are looking at an exchange for those that have problems, but nothing firm yet. I will push for this regardless of whether it was purchased from me or not (actually there were only two or three purchased for 05's from me at all).

On a side note, I highly recommend ditching the OE spring bolts, and spending a few dollars for stainless bolts/flat washers/lock washers at your local hardware store. I used the supplied hardware, and OE hardware for all but the O2 to downpipe flange. It works wonderfully for me.

This is just like the Helix catback problem that some vendor tried to do exchange program but it turned out that all of evos were affected. I bet all of megan racing downpipe doesn't fit 05 evo.
I am okay, I was able to fit that pice o **** on my evo. the angle of megan racing isn't that totally out of control. just need about 1/2 inch gaps here and there . guess what? I have a helix cat back that also doesn't fit 05 evo and it is not touching any or melting any. Cheap parts like those makes me come up with creative ideas
