Which cams?
my friend has 272s on no tuning and has no stallin issues you can barely tell the difference from stock...and when he turns on his a/c you cant even tell....i guess every car is diff. i will be going hks 272s so when i install them i will let you know how mine idles....
I ordered 264/272 yesterday, then changed
my order to 272/272 today because I realized I was being a wuss. I'm installing a Utec 3 hours after the cams and I've got gears too, so the idle shouldn't be too bad after the tune.
hopefully by the end of this month i will have them in along with alky injection, but not too sure, i am trying not to dump pit loads of money into my car but its hard. i will let you know as soon as i do though
Go with some GSC 272's.....Chris at LP will hook u up with a sweet deal! But if u wanna add another pair of ********* to your EVO, try the 280s.....i think Ted B has them set with a really aggressive setup, but his car pulls like a none other!
From what I understand, 280's are just flappin' in the breeze till you upgrade the turbo. They are a support upgrade to a turbo upgrade.
264's (or 264/272) are a good street set up
272's are a good stock turbo set up for 1/4 mile or quasi-drag applications
I have run 272/264 and 264/264 with cam gears. The closer you run to stock gear settings the faster you jump off the light, the more negative you run the gears (to a point) the better the top end. I have run in positive setting yet.
The 272/264 had better top end and was more explosive the pull.
You diffinetly want gears if you upgrade the cams. If I had it to do over again, I run the gears first to see what i could get with stock cams, then procede on to cam upgrades, UNLESS I just wanted a bunch more power. I enjoy the process though cause I do my own upgrades. (can't tune yet though)
280's are another world with a turbo upgrade
Good luck whatever you choose

Just decide what YOU want to do ... (not somebody else's idea)
Street or Road Course = 264 (or 264/272)
1/4 mile = 272/272
Get the Adjustable Gears.
Seriously, the 280's are supposed to be for a bigger turbo
Sorry If I confused you :-)
Good Luck

While talking with the guys from AMS at the SEMA show, i asked the same question.
they told me that they had a car with hks 272's...tuned nice...
they took them out and swapped in 280s. with no tuning and no changes....they made 37 more whp with no loss of low end power.
that was enough convincing for me.
