The ALS would not make any torque by it self. It only spools the turbo so you won't get any lag, hence the name Anti Lag System. As soon as you give the car throttle the ALS is disabled and the engine works in the normal way where the exhaust gases drives the turbo. In general what you do is moving the combustion from the cylinders out in the manifold by retarding the ignition, I don’t know all the details but that is the general function. I have ALS on my car and it’s very efficient, I have mine setup pretty conservative to save the turbo, it could be tuned much more aggressive and then you actually get full boost in between shifts and also when doing a standing start using the “launch control”
